She was an ardent feminist and Zionist and opponent of racism and all forms of bigotry. Along with her family, her many friends and colleagues grieve the loss of a hard-working, dedicated, one-of-a-kind human being. LEVIN, 89, of Boca Raton, Fla., died June 2, 2015. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ileene Levin; daughters, and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Richard Canvasser Levin of West Bloomfield, Miriam and Jay Coopersmith; grand- children, Stacy Goldberg, Julie (Tony) Purther, Ryan Coopersmith; great- grandchildren, Sloane Goldberg, Spencer Goldberg, Ethan Purther, Avery Purther, Lila Purther; cousins, Betty Becker and Jackie Medford; devoted caregivers and many other loving family members and friends. EUGENE MERIN, 95, a former Detroiter of Sunrise, Fla., passed away peacefully May 16, 2015, in Florida. His charm, wit and unique sense of humor delight- ed everyone he met. Eugene immi- grated to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia when his uncle began to foresee the impend- ing events in Europe. He attended high school in the U.S., while working for his uncle Morris Rosenberg, one of the founders of Congregation B'nai Moshe. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to Normandy. After the war, while still in uniform, he got permission to return to his hometown to search for his family. Although his father perished, his mother and sister survived Auschwitz, and they were able to have an emotional reunion. In 1948, Eugene married Maritza Hartman. They spent nine years in Venezuela near her family and returned to Detroit to raise their daughters. He worked closely with his lifelong friend James Kovacs at James Crystal Mfg. Co. After a happy marriage of 53 years, Maritza passed away in 2002. Eugene found a loving partner in Judit Wolf of Mt. Clemens for 12 years and became the beloved "Mr. Handsome" of Congregation Beth Tephilath Moses, as well as a life member of B'nai Moshe. He is survived by Judit Wolf; daugh- ters, Darlene Merin-Zietz and Debbie Merin; grandchildren, Jonathan and Jessica Zietz; nephew and niece, Walter Brown and Joyce Brown Davidson; Judit's children, Rob and Dawn Wolf; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is survived by her beloved hus- band, Herbert Charles Ovshinsky; daughters Ovshinsky and son-in-law, Pamela Ovshinsky of Petoskey, Jan and Richard Hyman of West Bloomfield; son, Richard Ovshinsky of Oak Park; grandchildren, Jared, Dylan, Cody; stepgrandson, Alec Beardsly; many other loving family members and friends. Mrs. Ovshinsky was the daughter of the late William and the late Sarah Koplin; the sister of the late Precilla Bartlett.
