MUMFORD & SONS
Known for their signature
banjo and kick drum, Mumford
& Sons' new album, Wilder
Mind, features a more wides-
creen approach, referencing
rock traditions of the 1970s
and '80s. The album was
recorded in part at Aaron
Dessner's garage studios in
Brooklyn. (Aaron and his twin
brother, Bryce, are in rock
band the National; Bryce also
collaborated with the Kronos
Quartet on an album he com-
posed called Aheym, which
means "homeward" in Yiddish,
and dedicated to his Jewish
grandmother, Sarah Dessner.)
See Mumford & Sons Tuesday,
June 16, at DTE Energy Music
Theatre, Clarkston. $35-$65.

PLAY BALL!
Pack up the family for a day at
the ball park — at Greenfield
Village. Played by the rules of
1867, Historic Base Ball Games
have no domed stadiums (games
are played in a grassy hillside
shaded by massive walnut trees),
gloves are optional and are
accompanied by live 19th-century-
style music and food. While you're
there, enter to win Detroit Tigers
tickets. Every Saturday-Sunday,

STILL IN THE LIMELIGHT
Born Gary Lee Weinrib, Rush lead
singer, bassist and songwriter
Geddy Lee took his stage (and
legal) name from the way his
Polish-immigrant (and Bergen-
Belsen survivor) mother pro-
nounced his name. Also in tribute
to his mother, Lee's band mate
Neil Peart wrote the Rush song
"Red Sector A" after Lee told him
her story. Rush brings its 40th-
anniversary tour R40 Live to the
Palace of Auburn Hills Sunday,
June 14. $49.50-$129. (800) 745-
3000; palacenet.com .
