The Cranbrook Academy of Art Board of Governors conferred an honor- ary master's degree upon Maxine Frankel of Bloomfield Hills dur- Frankel ing its May com- mencement. Frankel joined the Academy Board of Governors in 1996 and has served as chair of the board since 2002. This is the first time in the academy's history that it has conferred an honorary degree. Cranbrook Academy of Art announced that the recipient of this year's Distinguished Alumni Award is Ruth Adler Schnee. The award recognizes Schnee graduates who have demonstrated creativity, innovation, leadership and vision through their contributions to the practices of archi- tecture, art and design, as well as to Cranbrook Academy of Art. Schnee graduated from Cranbrook Academy of Art with a degree in design in 1946, one of the first women to achieve this distinction. Simon Ariel Kapen, grandson of West Bloomfield resident Rachel Kapen, placed fifth in the country in his level math. Kapen Gary W. Edelson, M.D., of Associated Endocrinologists PC, has been selected by the Father's Day Council to be honored at the Father of the Year gala on Thursday, Edelson June 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the MGM Grand Hotel in Detroit. He and three others will be recognized as business and community leaders who balance highly successful careers with the demands of being an exemplary role model for their children. Chief Judge Nanci Grant of the Oakland County Circuit Court was recently presented with the 2015 WONder Woman Award at the Women Grant Officials Network Award Ceremony. The award recogniz- es women who have improved the quality of life in Southeast Michigan through their civic, philanthropic and professional accomplishments. In rec- ognition of the award, Judge Grant also received a special tribute from Gov. Rick Snyder and the 98th Michigan Legislature. The American Technion Society announced the appointment of Dave Doneson, former University of Michigan alumnus and employee, as Doneson senior vice president of campaign. Doneson served as the University of Michigan Health System's director of development. He managed, developed and coached a team dedicated to major gift fundraising, and was involved in all aspects of campaign plan- ning for the Frankel Cardiovascular Center and the Kellogg Eye Center. He previously served as the director of major gifts at the U-M Life Sciences Institute, where he successfully re-engi- neered a fundraising plan for his unit, and prior to that, he was the regional director of Development and Alumni Relations at the U-M Law School. Jennifer Oram, a lifelong resident of Orchard Lake, has been named as a Fellow in the 2015 class of the Michigan Political Leadership Program housed at Oram the Michigan State University Institute for Public Policy. Oram holds elected positions on the 14th Congressional District Republican Executive Committee and on the Oakland County Republican Executive Committee, along with a leadership position in the Oakland County Young Republicans.
