Jewish Family Festival

Event provides fun, family atmosphere to celebrate Lag b'Omer.

n honor of Lag b'Omer, nearly 800 people
came together for a wonderful day May 7 at
Heritage Park in Farmington Hills. Now in its
second year, the Great Jewish Family Festival put
on by The Shul in West Bloomfield had something
for every age, with a human hamster ball, moon
bounces, face painting, archery and much more.
PJ Library and JFamily from the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit had a tent
buzzing with young artists at work. Starring ven-

dors from all around Metro Detroit, the food court
had many happy customers. Thanks to sponsors
— Kroger, JFamily and others — and incredible
volunteers, the event was offered free of charge to
the entire Jewish community.
A highlight for many was a 25-foot bonfire.
Children and adults alike were roasting marsh-
mallows together and singing popular Jewish
songs. Everyone enjoyed the festive atmosphere,
complete with maracas and dancing clowns. ❑

as local musician Avy Schreiber.
The theme for the day was "CommUnity"
and was intended to celebrate and encourage
