TRAVELING MAN
After years spent traveling the
world, recording albums of smart
and edgy folk-rock and occasion-
ally stopping in at an isolated
Alaska cabin-home base, Ethan
Daniel Davidson returned to the
Detroit area in 2012 to help run
the philanthropic William Davidson
Foundation, founded by his late
father. On his most recent album
Drawnigh his first since return-
ing to Michigan, and featuring his
wife, Gretchen, on lead guitar and
produced by local favorite Warren
Defever - Davidson weaves a
tapestry of golden-voiced story-
telling, including references to his
time at the Jewish Theological
Seminary. Download songs at
drawnighmusic.com , and see him
perform at 9 p.m. Saturday, May
16, at the UFO Factory, Detroit.

"For me, the essence of photog-
raphy is to see the moment,"
writes award-winning Okemos-
based photographer Arnold
Berkman. "To respond emotion-
ally to what I have seen, and
then to use my eye and my cam-
era so that others can see and
experience the same." Inspired
by painter Edward Hopper's use
of light to create an emotional
mood, Berkman's photographs
have a distinct painterly quality.
