ark Morganroth,
owner of
Sherwood
Studios in West
Bloomfield, comes from a
long line of master uphol-
sterers. His father, the late
Ben Morganroth, opened
an upholstery shop in
1935 in the Dexter-
Davison neighborhood of
Detroit, later adding the
manufacture of custom
upholstery furniture and
draperies.
Sherwood Studios
left its Tel-12 location in
Southfield for its beautiful
Orchard Lake Road store in 1989.
Introduced to upholstering at age 7,
Mark Morganroth earned a bachelor of
fine arts degree in interior architecture
(design) at Wayne State University and
belongs to the American Society of
Interior Designers (ASID).
Sherwood Studios is where customers
find "contemporary furniture you
wouldn't see in the average furniture
store," Morganroth said. "We carry
Ekornes Stressless, American Leather,
Gamma Leather, Jaymar, Creative
Elegance and Vanguard, to name a few
manufacturers."
Custom treatments are Sherwood
Studio's specialty. Furniture comes in a
wide range of fabrics, finishes and styles.
"If you need your sofa 70 inches, we
can make it that size," Morganroth said.
"Your choices with us are unlimited,"
he continued. "We can show you various
options, but then you can pick other
styles from our manufacturer catalogues."
Sherwood Studios provides equally
custom service. Morganroth's team often
renovates entire homes.
"We completely redo their residences,
including window treatments, wall
coverings, draperies — anything you can
think of," he said.
A repeat customer from years ago once
hired Sherwood Studios to give her condo

a new, fresh look.
When Morganroth visited, he was
pleased that "the place still looked as
beautiful as when we did it. The top-
quality furniture had lasted 25 years and
was in excellent shape."
Sherwood Studios takes the pressure
off clients by measuring their homes and
doing a layout plan.
"We handle the coordination of
getting the rooms completed with all our
contractors, including painters, and the
wallpaper and carpet installers. We can
even move walls," he said.
Offering very different merchandise,
Morganroth said his store and URDEZIGN
attract their own set of customers.
Sherwood Studios stands out as a retailer
of clean, contemporary and transitional
furniture, "but we have all these services
