DWOIRA BERGSTEIN, formerly of
Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Efrat, Israel, died
April 13, 2015, at the age of 90+ at the home
of her children, Rabbi and Mrs. Chaim
Bergstein in Farmington Hills.
She was known as the most exceptional
student in her hometown of Nevel in Russia.
While studying aeronautical engineering
and design in Tashkent during and after
World War II, she met her husband, Jacob
Bergstein, in August 1945. He convinced
her that it was better to have children born
into freedom than to be a great scientist
in the U.S.S.R. Together, they fled in late
autumn of 1945, arriving in the American
Zone in Berlin. After many sojourns in dis-
placed persons camps and transient lodg-
ings, they arrived in the port of New York
in April 1950. They engaged in the grocery
business followed by assisted living homes.
The Bergsteins had four children, 17
grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren;
the most recent, a girl, born on the day of
Mrs. Bergstein's passing. May her example of
sacrifice be an inspiration for all exceptional
women of our world. All of her progeny are
proud, freedom-loving and observant Jews.

"I've changed
my mind.
Now what?"
