Eight honorees will be celebrated for
their lifetime dedication to tikkun olam,

Hon. Avern Cohn
Cohn is a U.S. District judge who has
dedicated his career to
the pursuit of justice
and protection of free-
dom. He has worked
hard to bridge the gap
between people of dif-
ferent races and cul-
tures. He is also active
with awarding citizen-
ship to older adults. He is active in the
Jewish Communty Center, the Jewish
Community Relations Council, the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and
American Jewish Committee and is a
Federation Butzel Award winner.

A community volunteer, Labes was one of
the first co-chairs of
COJES (Commission
on Jewish Eldercare
Services) and has
remained dedicated to
expanding services for
older adults and care-
givers in the communi-
ty. She is also active
with Jewish Senior Life, Yad Ezra, NCJW
and Jewish Women's Foundation. She
received Federation's 2006 Lifetime
Achievement Award.
Geri Margolis
A true professional volunteer, Margolis
has dedicated most of
her time to older adults
with Jewish Home &
Aging Services/Jewish
Senior Life. She is one
of the creators behind
the annual community
event, Walk of Ages,
and an advocate for
Alzheimer's and other medical-related
organizations for older adults. She is a
long-standing member of Shaarey Zedek.
Sondra Nathan
Very active in working to provide for and
protect families and
children, Nathan has
been active with NCJW
(former president),
Kadima, JVS, Jewish
Apartments and
Services/JSL and
Temple Shir Shalom.
She was a developer of
Orchards Children's Services and active
with SPACE (a family program), CASA
(Court Appointed Special Advocate) and
Luggage for Freedom programs.
Bert Stein
Stein continues a longtime — almost life-
long — commitment
to Yad Ezra through
his work with Meals on
Wheels and its ware-
house operations. He is
also very active in
bringing awareness of
breast cancer and, to
date, has raised more than $150,000 for
this cause through breast cancer walks
and other fundraisers.
George Zeff
A Holocaust survivor, Zeff continues to
share his story at the
Holocaust Memorial
Center with audiences
of all ages. His inspira-
tional experiences as a
French teacher, enter-
tainer and his positive
focus and wisdom
shared almost daily illustrate his remark-
able strength and unshakeable spirit.
The luncheon is catered by Quality
Kosher Catering and the cost is $80 per
person. The event sells out quickly and
