"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch,
a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest
compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of
which have the potential to turn a life around."
-Leo Buscaglia
As we celebrate Yad Ezra's 25th anniversary,
we must acknowledge the scores of dedicated
individuals who have volunteered at Yad Ezra
since we opened our doors in 1990. Your efforts
provide physical nourishment and your compassion,
dedication and support provide emotional
and spiritual nourishment to vulnerable
families living in our midst.

re you ready to better the
lives of Nepalese children
and women while partici-
pating in the thrill of a lifetime? If so,
mark Friday, May 8, on your calen-
dars and go "Over the Edge Detroit"
with the Detroit2Nepal (D2N)
Foundation.
Those who raise $1,000 will be eli-
gible to rappel off the iconic, 341-foot
First National Building in Campus
Martius in Downtown Detroit. The
event will be hosted by D2N and its
partners Quicken Loans and Bedrock
Real Estate Services. Participants must
be at least 18 to rappel. D2N will pro-
vide training on site; no prior experi-
ence is necessary.
D2N completed the construction of a
rural medical clinic in Dispung village
this fall and is now organizing the first
birthing center in this region at this
facility Currently, all women in this
area deliver their babies at home with-
out prenatal exams or the attention of
health professionals. Their pregnancy
and delivery complications reflect the
standards of their current practice, and
D2N hopes to make a lasting impact by
purchasing medical equipment, quickly
transporting supplies and providing
extensive training by the standards of
Western medical practice.
The foundation will train a nurse
midwife as a skilled birthing attendant
and provide medical instruction for
each of the village's nine female com-
munity health volunteers who will visit
each home in the village and provide
training for prenatal checkups and
delivery at the birthing center.
Half of the funds D2N raises each
year support local children's programs.
This year, the foundation will sup-
port the Detroit Area Pre-College
Engineering Program (DAPCEP).
D2N's work will provide STEM (sci-
ence, technology, engineering and
math) curricula to underserved chil-
dren in the Detroit area.
Register to rappel as an individual or
team at www.overtheedgedetroit.com .
Too chicken to take the leap? You can
show your support by donating directly
to Team Namgyal Sherpa headed by
