T

wo West Bloomfield High School
hockey stars earned post-season
honors for their success on the
ice and in the classroom.
Senior forward Sean Wigler was
named the Most Valuable Player in the
Oakland Activities
Association White
Division in a
vote by division
coaches.
Senior Michael
Kolodin, who
played defense
and forward, was
selected to the
Sean Wigler
All-OAA White
Division Team by
coaches. Wigler also was an All-OAA
White Division pick.
"Sean had some competition for the
MVP award, but
there really wasn't
much debate said
West Bloomfield
coach Joe Chagnon.
Wigler had 20
goals and 32 assists
for 52 points in
26 games for the
Lakers (15-9-2).
Michael Kolodin
Kolodin had 12
goals and 11 assists in 19 games. He
missed eight games because of a concus-
sion.
The longtime friends served as team
co-captains. Each played for the Lakers
for four years.
West Bloomfield was named an
Academic All-State team by the
Michigan High School Hockey Coaches
Association. A team must have a com-
bined 3.0 or better grade point average to
be considered for the honor.
Wigler and Kolodin were named
Academic All-State as individuals. Only
seniors are eligible for the award.
Junior forward Drew Warneke and
sophomore defenseman Noah Post
shared in the Lakers' team Academic All-
State honor.
"Drew and Noah are on their way to
becoming all-division players and indi-
vidual Academic All-Staters:' Chagnon
said.
"I'm real proud of our team for being
Academic All-State. It makes a coach's
job much easier when you don't have to

worry about your players getting good
grades:'
Wigler is playing golf this spring for
West Bloomfield. Kolodin is playing
lacrosse for the Lakers.

More Stars On Ice

Jack Blumberg from Franklin and Spencer
Applebaum from Farmington Hills were
among the stars for the Michigan High
School Athletic Association Division 3
state champion Bloomfield Hills-based
Cranbrook-Kingswood hockey team.
Blumberg had 18 goals and 13 assists
for 31 points, and Applebaum was the
Cranes' No. 1 goalie. He compiled an 18-3
record in the nets with six shutouts and a
microscopic 1.71 goals-against average.
Cranbrook-Kingswood (25-2-4),
ranked No. 1 in the division all season,
beat Houghton 4-0 in the state champion-
ship game at the Compuware Arena in
Plymouth.
The Cranes were dominant in the
state playoffs, outscoring their seven
opponents 44-4.

Another Star On Ice
So what's figure skater Ben Agosto up to
these days? The 2000 Birmingham Groves
High School graduate and Olympic med-
alist and his ice dancing partner Tanith
Belbin are among the headliners of the
Stars on Ice show.
Agosto, 33, who lives in Ann Arbor,
and Belbin won a silver medal at the 2006
Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. They also
were five-time U.S. champions and four-
time world medalists.
