Asufa, which means "collection" in
Hebrew, is a Jaffa, Israel-based design
shop offering gifts and home decor
by young Israeli designers. This year,
the third in a row, Asufa has created
its own Passover Haggadah that is a
collection of the work of more than
40 of Israel's best graphic designers
and illustrators. Each artist is given a
different portion of the Haggadah to
interpret, with only two rules: Each
artist may only draw a single page;
and the artist must use the traditional
Haggadah text.
With pages ranging in style from
ultra-modern to straightforwardly tra-
ditional, from a moody yet charming
charcoal drawing to an actual board
game, the entire collection is stunning
and engaging. Why is this year spe-
cial? The kosher-for-Passover Asufa
Haggadah ($25; left, burning the leav-
ened, and below, the Four Questions)
is available in North America for the
first time, through Print-O-Craft, a
small publishing house in Philadelphia
(in addition to the Haggadah, they
also publish a beautifully illustrated
bentsher). Website: Shabb.es

SAFE FOR NON-REMERSI

For Jews (and others) who enjoy
the cultural aspects of Passover
more than the religious parts,

The Unorthodox Haqqadah: A
Dogma-Free Passover for Jews
& Other Chosen People (Andrews
McMeel; $9.99) by Nathan
Phillips is irreverently funny (in a
snarky sort of way) and teeming
with pop-culture references and
surreal interactive rituals. Area
Barnes & Noble stores (bn.com ).

Hand-sewn from her workshop in Jerusalem,
Barbara Shaw's Passover Counting Fun
($39.99) soft book combines the power of
tradition with her fresh modern style — while
engaging the littlest guests at the seder table.
