"Let me help you get treatment," she told him. Pam identified the best detox center in Orange County, arranged a scholarship for him to enroll in a rehabilitation program and Feinberg Consulting is providing coaching for the family. "We felt like an angel had come and saved us from the hell we've endured with our son the last few years," his mother said. "Our coach has helped us learn how to live our lives again." Pam Feinberg-Rivkin is founder and CEO of Feinberg Consulting in West Bloomfield, with 60 health professionals at the ready to help soothe and direct families embroiled in a constellation of concerns. This "dream team" can navigate the health insurance system, identify the best treatment facilities and direct others to counseling. They can help draft an action plan for catastrophic situations from brain injuries to a rapidly aging parent. "The money we can save families with interviews and a treatment plan can save months of anguish because we have a solid referral network," Pam said. "Our clients will always have a real person on call, with insight into their situation." Almost no family is unscathed from the pressures of society, car accidents, brain injuries, alcohol or drug abuse, vocational consulting or the need for care management. The firm keeps growing to embrace people's needs. Over the past 20 years, the firm has served more than 2,000 clients. Among its resources are nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, sober coaches, brain injury specialists, education consultants, coaches, rehabilitation specialists, interventionists and business professionals. Their abiding purpose is to help improve lives. The company is built on passion, love, trust and respect. From Nurse To Nurturer Caring for individuals who sustained catastrophic illnesses and injuries became a passion for Pam who worked as a registered nurse in hospital, home care and rehabilitation settings. She saw a need for an individual consultant, helping draft individualized plans for each client's care. In 1996, she formed Feinberg Consulting. "There is so much a committed case manager can do to provide assistance, direction and support for a client's wide range of healthcare needs," Pam said. Over her years of practice, she earned her RN, BSN, CCM, CRRN and ABDA. Her de facto title became "Interventionist." By collaborating with family members and other health care providers, the team can provide direction and support for a client's wide range of healthcare needs. The need kept growing. Pam began hiring and mentoring a compassionate, highly skilled team. She recruited professionals to serve with addiction recovery, educational consulting, vocational consulting, life care plans and care management. She developed a new division, Bridgeway, which offers care management and home care, primarily to seniors. From Teens To Elderly, Help Is Located While Pam built her business, she also was forced to address issues in her own family. Her son slipped into drug addiction. As she dealt with his situation, she found others throughout her community, through the state and beyond who suffered from addictions including alcohol, narcotics, opiates, ecstasy, gaming, sex and even work. She helped her son find the resources for his recovery and added a whole new division to her company, addressing the needs of the addicted individual and the family who struggles to cope. "The most important aspect of our addiction recovery services is that we look at the entire picture," Pam said. "We set up families to be successful after treatment when so often people relapse. We bring in recovery coaches and educational consultants so that loved ones have a real and measurable journey to recovery." Her heart goes out to those who are suffering. "We've helped save young people from the depths of addiction, some who were on the verge of death — starving, living in warehouses, disconnected and lost." Her aim is to help them find their way. As she has helped in Michigan her practice has expanded to Florida, California and beyond because people in need find her company a compassionate, practical resource. When people in her community talked of their aging parents and the frustrations of finding a care management company that would supply honest, hard-working people to come to their homes and assisted living facilities to help, she founded Bridgeway. This combines the clinical and psychosocial expertise of a nurse or social worker with the hands-on support of a caretaker. "We want to make an amazing fit and we pride ourselves in attracting caregivers who are a cut above the rest," Pam said. Her team looks to hire former professors and future physicians to help the elderly cope with daily situations. Putting Health Care In Perspective The amount of professionals, services, facilities, medicines, logistics, paperwork and research needed to care for one individual has become staggering. "We've taken the model of managing complex medical cases, like spinal cord injuries or traumatic brain injuries, and applied this to all types of health challenges — from aging parents to addiction recovery, to severe illnesses or disability," Pam said. "Whatever the situation, we have professionals to help. And we're committed to helping each step of the way." This spring, Pam Feinberg-Rivkin will receive the Community Service & Leadership Award from the Brain Injury Association of Michigan at the April 18 Legacy Dinner with 1,200 supporters. She will be honored along with Dr. Larry Horn of the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan. Looking Forward The health care system becomes more complicated with added forms to obtain, varied plans to consider and a host of options to pursue. With an increasingly aging population, the needs of home care and guardianship become tantamount. With the availability of drugs, alcohol and prescription drugs, intervention and recovery services are needed. But finding a guide is of the essence. "We are an agile and progressive company able to adapt to whatever the future holds. We employ and train only people who are passionate about what they do. So many of us have been through tragedy ourselves. We really do understand," Pam said. Feinberg Consulting can be reached at (877) 538-5425 or online at FeinbergConsulting.com . •
