Yummy Breakfast, Yummy Lunch!

Dimitri Syros & son are back ... with pancakes, crepes, omelets and more.

S

ure they have a Greek salad ...
And it is considered among the
best ... Pitas, too, Greek chicken,
veggie wrap, and gyro ... homemade
spinach pie and Greek custard ... Even a
few Mexican quesadillas, chicken, Philly
steak and gyro ... Lots of American
favorites, too ... burgers, soups, sand-
wiches, salads, etc.
But no mistaking that it is not a Greek
restaurant as Dimitri Syros and his son
Nick return near the site of one of their
greatest dining successes ... the former
Dimitri's of Southfield Greek eatery on
Southfield off 10 Mile, with its luscious
lamb chops amid so many favorites.
This time, their main tummy theme
is as American as they come as Dimitri's
Pancake House on Southfield Road,
first light north of 12 Mile Road, in the
Southfield Commons shopping center ...
Open seven days for
breakfast and lunch, 8
a.m.-3:30 p.m. ... with
seating for 120 amid
a gracious and well-
appointed setting of
tables and booths.
More than 20 pan-
cake varieties, four
crepes (blueberry
cream, strawberry
cream, caramel apple
I
pecan), Belgian
Dimitri Syros and
waffles, seven French
toast styles, omelets,
four benedicts, skil-
lets, etc., including many that folks may
never have heard of but are so delicious
... like pineapple upside-down, whole-
grain and nut, caramel apple, strawberry
banana, triple berry, Almond Joy, peach
almond, etc. ... Seven French toasts from
challah to caramel apple pecan, etc. ...
Even many more specials, too, like choc-
olate mint pancakes, etc.
Also 15 types of omelets from Philly

steak and cheese to chicken
fajita, veggie, Italiano, chicken
parmesan, meat lovers, etc. ...
And making your own omelet
concoctions, too.
Dimitri is no stranger to
the pancake and waffle busi-
ness, having formerly owned
a Dimitri's Pancake House on
Hayes and 18 Mile Road.
This one certainly sounds
like an adventure in breakfast
delights ... And gazing around
the restaurant, it sure seemed
like customers were having a joyous time
devouring treats from the large selection.
HE MAY NO LONGER be a Detroit
Lion, but former defensive tackle
Ndamukong Suh, now with the Miami
Marlins, will continue to have a local
presence ... His wine locker at Steven
Lelli's on the Green,
12 Mile, Farmington
Hills, still has a one-
year lease to run with
eight $350 bottles of
Tom Celani vino in
it ... Also, Suh prob-
ably has no intention
of missing his Lelli's
on the Green's juicy
Chateaubriand for
two whenever here
... It comes for two,
three or four people
Suh devours the
entire two pounds in
one sitting.
READER MINI REVIEW ... from
Susan Sherbow On a recent Saturday
afternoon, Mark, I and friends visited
the Dime Store restaurant in the Chrysler
House on Griswold in Downtown Detroit
for a dining adventure.
"Our duck confit, along with the less-
surprising beef and chicken, provided
something for the less daring. Our hash

browns were sensational,
cubes of potato, crunchy on
the outside, soft in the mid-
dle and salted just right.
"Kevin Turner ordered the
turkey sausage sandwich,
which was mildly spicy, with
spinach, tomato and fried
egg white. Mark ordered the
Korean Barbecue, and the
shaved steak melted in his
mouth, tender with a nice
crunch from carrots and
cucumbers, topped with
an authentic Korean bulgogi barbecue
sauce.
"Karole Davies had the Brussel sprout
salad served on a bed of spinach. The
sprouts were seared and al dente, and
the bacon, which we thought was coated
with maple syrup, was sweet and crisp.
Our salad dressing, a maple syrup and
honey vinaigrette, had a pleasant, slightly
sweet taste.
"April Turner and Eric Davies chose
the salmon salad. The maple-mustard
glazed salmon, she said, was moist on
top of mixed greens, dill, onion, cucum-
ber, cherry tomatoes and sunflower seeds
dressed with an aged sherry vinaigrette:'
GOOD SERVER DEPT. ... Gail
Lamkin at Sposita's Italian Ristorante,
14 Mile, east of Farmington Road, West
Bloomfield ... Orders taken with big
smile and gracious professionalism that
bring satisfying remarks by her custom-
ers.
DANDY DINING DEAL ... Two
Homemade Stuffed Peppers ... with fresh
chopped meat and topped with home-
made tomato sauce ... Meal includes
soup or salad and mashed potato, veg-
etable and bread basket ... $6.95 ... 10
days only, Thursday, March 26, through
Saturday, April 4, ... Siegel's Deli, 15
Mile, west of Haggerty Road, Commerce
Township.

MAKING ROUNDS ... To Bill's,
Bloomfield Hills, for Chicken Waldorf
... To Cafe Muse, Royal Oak, for Duck
Breast ... To Pars, Farmington Hills, for
Chicken Sotani ... To Cliff Bell's, Detroit,
for Red Wine Braised Lamb Shank.
THEIR NAMES are almost the same,
but there is no affiliation or relation-
ship between Republica restaurant in
Berkley and the new Republic restaurant
in Detroit.
THANK YOU ... for the many condo-
lences on the passing of my companion
and partner, Gigi, my wonderful French
poodle.
OLDIE BUT GOODIE DEPT. ... A
man was quietly reading his paper when
his wife sneaks up behind him and
whacks him on the head with a frying
pan.
"What was that for?" he says.
"That was for the piece of paper in
your pants pocket with the name Mary
Lou on it!' she replies.
He explains, "Two weeks ago when
I went to the races, Mary Lou was the
name of one of the horses I bet on:'
She was satisfied, apologizes and goes
off to do work around the house.
Three days later he's again sitting in
his chair reading when she nails him
with an even bigger frying pan, knocking
him out cold.
When he comes to, he says, "What the
hell was that for?"
"Your horse phoned!"
CONGRATS ... To Sidney "Sid"
Newman on his birthday ... To Alex "Al"
Winkler on his birthday ... To William
"Bill" Keller on his 85th birthday ... To
David "Dave" and Gertrude "Gert" Matz
on their 64th anniversary ... To Alvin
"Al" and Marilyn Frommer on their 54th
anniversary.
