"The location sets the tone for everything, and finding the right spot was probably the hardest part of the planning. I think my family wanted to kill me." Danielle, who grew up in Farmington Hills, and Aaron, who is from Colorado, live in New York City, and had friends and family coming to celebrate from all over the world, so it was important to them that their guests feel at ease and really enjoy every- thing. "I looked at venues everywhere, from Napa to Detroit to Charlevoix," Danielle says. "We wanted a Napa/Sonoma feel, but in Michigan. And I love farms, animals and farm-to-table food, so a farm was ideal." But not easy to find. Although she had come across Misty Farm in Ann Arbor on Pinterest, she soon found they were booked for a full year. Almost a year later, when Danielle still had not found the perfect spot, she tried again — this time, she was told that the property had just finished restoring a circa-1800s, 2,400-square-foot barn called Misty Valley. And Danielle was on it. "I sent my parents out for a site visit, which was not easy at the time because they thought I was crazy to want to get mar- ried in a barn," Danielle says. "After they met [owner] Kelly and toured the grounds, they got it. Kelly had a unique passion and vision, which made you want to be a part of it. It was a no- brainer." ❑ F Lights twinkle in the barn beyond the newlyweds. continued on page C8 C 6 celebrate!
