ABOVE LEFT- Tali Rubenstein's birthday just happened to fall over the weekend

of her brother's May 3, 2014, bar mitzvah at Congregation Beth Ahm. So at Ari
Rubenstein's shabbat dinner, their parents, Robin and Rabbi Steven Rubenstein, pre-

sented Tali with a candy confection. "Tali doesn't like cake, so this was the perfect
solution to that," says Robin Rubenstein, who pulled out her trusty hot-glue gun

and got to work. Gluing together layers of Styrofoam circles from Michael's to look
like a tiered cake, she then trimmed the edges with a variety of colorful ribbons and
cut striped paper straws into one-inch pieces, which she glued to two of the tiers.
Rubenstein affixed packaged candy around the tiers with Velcro dots, so the candy

could be detached to eat without ruining the cake.

ABOVE RIGHT: For Ari's Lego-themed event, Robin Rubenstein created a Lego design
for a photo board. She contacted an artist on Etsy to craft his name in the Lego logo
script then send the pieces to Rubenstein, who glued them all to the board. "It's all
relatively even," she says. "Which is shocking, beacuse I didn't use a ruler or any-
thing."

ABOVE LE'' For Spencer Litvin's Jan. 18, 2015, bar mitzvah party at Dave & Buster's,
mom Melissa Litvin gratefully accepted friend Jennifer Kroll's glitter-orb centerpieces,
and put a completely new spin on them by removing the pink Styrofoam balls and
adding airbrushed basketballs.

ABOVE RIGHT: Litvin picked up mini basketball hoops at Five Below, printed graffiti
online with Spencer's logo then had a friend help take them apart, attach the graf-
fiti to both sides and put them back together. Each hoop was inserted into a (new)
pair of basketball sneakers (many loaned by Spencer's teammates) filled with cups of
candy.
