sooner rather than later.
"One thing I often hear is 'I wish I had
gotten help earlier:" said panelist Isabelle
Beaulieu, a neuropsychologist who spe-
cializes in treating children, adolescents
and young adults.
Communication between parents and
children is key, especially regarding topics
such as drugs and alcohol, suicide and
feelings in general.
"It's important for parents to be
involved" Oleshansky said. "Talk to your
kids, especially if you see behavioral
changes such as isolation or changes in
their appearance"

abbi Eric Grossman, head of
school at Frankel Jewish Academy
in West Bloomfield, will leave his
position in July to become head of school
at the Ramaz School, a 1,150-student K-12
Jewish day school on Manhattan's Upper
East Side.
By the time he and his family move to
New York, he will have served FJA for 14
years. Grossman began as a classroom
teacher and Bible department head. He
taught hundreds of students biblical
Hebrew grammar. He would later become
the second head of
school since FJAS found-
ing in 2000. This year,
FJA has 225 students.
In May, FJA will
honor Grossman for
his contributions to the
school and its students.
"I would like to thank
Rabbi
the FJA community for
Grossman
the outpouring of kind-
ness and good wishes I received following
the announcement of my new position at
Ramaz" Grossman wrote in a letter to FJA
students, parents and supporters. "Your
words reminded me of everything I love
about FJA, and I am deeply grateful to have
been able to spend such a significant por-
tion of my life at this school.
"I am proud to share that FJA is in the
strongest position it has ever been in since
our founding 15 years ago" he wrote.
"Educationally, philosophically, fiscally and
operationally, we have never been in as
solid a place as we are today. We know who
we are, and we deliver an educational prod-
uct recognized nationally for its excellence:'
Ramaz is a coeducational Modern
Orthodox day school founded in 1937.
Like FJA, its curriculum integrates secu-
lar and Jewish learning. Ramaz alumni
include Isaac Herzog, Zionist Union alli-
ance chairman and one of Prime Minister
Netanyahu's most formidable challengers in
the March 17 Israeli election.
Judaic Studies Principal Rabbi Azaryah
Cohen will become acting head of school
on July 1. Cohen began at FJA as a class-
room teacher, instructing students in
Talmud. He is co-rabbi of Congregation Or
Chadash in Oak Park with Rabbi Eliezer
Finkelman.
Other faculty changes:
• Rabbi Elliot Pachter, current director of
student services, will transition from senior
rabbi to rabbi emeritus at Congregation
B'nai Moshe in West Bloomfield to take
on a larger leadership role at FJA. He has
been with the school for 11 years. Soon he
will work fully as part of the school's new
administrative team.
• Erin Holodnick, current head of the
Educational Leadership Team, will become
director of general studies, overseeing the
math, history, science and English depart-
ments. Holodnick has taught at FJA for
nearly a decade and was head of the history
department.
• Beginning next academic year, Rabbi
Reuven Margrett will become FJAs director
of Jewish studies. He has served as minyan
coordinator and chair of the rabbinics
department. He is known for his work in
incorporating educational technology into
the Jewish studies classroom.
"Along with the Executive Committee, I
have formed a search committee to identify
the best candidate for the head of school
position" Jeff Brodsky, FJA president wrote
in a letter to the FJA community. "The
committee will be chaired by Bill Sider,
currently vice president at FJA, and will
begin its work shortly"
