Davidson Foundation Awards
$2 Million To ShalomLearning
ShalomLearning Inc., a nonprofit organiza-
tion dedicated to cultivating a lifelong love
of Jewish learning among Jews of all back-
grounds and affiliations by harnessing tech-
nology and the latest educational practices,
has been awarded a $2 million grant from
the William Davidson Foundation.
With the grant also comes a challenge to
the Jewish philanthropic community.
In making the grant, the founda-
tion indicated its decision to invest in
ShalomLearning stems from its deep com-
mitment to advancing Jewish education by
merging ancient wisdom with modern tech-
nology. The foundation was able to witness
the impact of ShalomLearning partnerships
with Detroit-area synagogues as well as
other pilot projects around the country.
"We created ShalomLearning as a new
platform for Jewish learning that is adap-
tive and flexible to meet the needs of
Jewish families because research on young
Jews consistently reveals a declining com-
mitment and involvement by Jewish fami-
lies in traditional frameworks of Jewish
life and education," said Devin Schain, co-
founder and chairman of ShalomLearning.

"THE TIME YOU SPENT WITH
US AND MY CHILDREN
TALKING ABOUT MY FATHER
AND EXPLAINING THE
PROCESS OF DYING HELPED
MAKE THIS TIME OF SADNESS
AND LOSS TOLERABLE."

WE APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK WE
RECEIVE FROM THE FAMILIES WE SERVE.

"This grant from the William Davidson
Foundation will fuel our efforts to expand
Jewish learning and enrichment regardless
of location or affiliation"
The grant has been awarded in two
parts: The first $1 million of support
is immediate and will be utilized by
ShalomLearning to scale up operations
and outreach across the United States. The
balance of the grant comes in the form
of a "challenge grant:' designed to inspire
deeper investment among Jewish donors
in education and innovation.
The William Davidson Foundation
will match all new donations to
ShalomLearning, on a one-to-one basis,
up to $500,000 in 2016 and $500,000 in
2017. All donations in the 2015 and 2016
calendar years from new contributors will
qualify for the match.
Over the next three years,
ShalomLearning plans to expand enrollment
from its current level of 300 students and 15
certified teachers to more than 1,800 stu-
dents and 100 teachers around the country.

1:1 Match Grant, contact Executive
Director JoshuaTroderman at Joshua@
