metro >> around town -Jewish Unity Or Chadash hosts the 83rd annual Men's Club Dinner. Charles Silow Special to the Jewish News he 83rd annual Intercongregational Men's Club Dinner took place Feb. 12 at Young Israel of Oak Park and was sponsored by Congregation Or Chadash of Huntington Woods/Oak Park. The featured speaker was Vice Consul General Midwest of the State of Israel Alex Goldman-Shayman, who spoke about a variety of topics related to the current situa- tion in the Middle East and future prospects for peace. The late Rabbi Eliezer Cohen of Congregation Or Chadash was a great proponent of participation in the Men's Club Dinner, where Jews of all streams of Judaism come together in the spirit of Jewish unity. Or Chadash was the first Orthodox synagogue to participate in the Men's Club Dinner. In the spirit of goodwill, Young Israel of Oak Park graciously invited Or Chadash to use its synagogue facilities this year. At the dinner, Rabbi Azaryah Cohen gave a tribute to his father. He and Rabbi Eliezer Finkelman, the two rabbis of Or Chadash, participated in the ceremonies. Approximately 90 people attended and danced the evening away to music from the '50s through the '70s. Live music was provided by DJ Ellen Mohan. Guests enjoyed a fajita fiesta dinner and desserts. The event was co-chaired by Ruth HaberkornHalm and Ilene Schwartz. A 50/50 raffle was held, with the winner, Gail Mizruchi, generously re-donating her winnings.
