Then I saw an ad about AFHU Hebrew University Gift

Annuities supporting The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
I read up on HU. It was everything I care about in
one package.

M

ichigan residents may find
some relief this year from
taxes owed to the Michigan
Department of Treasury under a new
"offer in compromise" program mod-
eled after a similar IRS program for
federal taxes.
To learn about the chang-
es in state law, we sat down
with Lawrence Levy, found-
er and CEO of Lathrup
Village-headquartered Levy
& Associates, a tax resolu-
tion firm specializing in
state and federal civil tax
resolution and preparation. Lawrenc e
Levy is on the executive
committee of the Better Business
Bureau for Eastern Michigan and the
Upper Peninsula. He and his wife,
Michelle, live in Commerce with their
two sons, Maverick and Jett. They are
members of Temple Israel and proud
supporters of Friends of the Israel
Defense Forces.

HU's contributions to Israel and the world are as
wide-ranging as they are impactful.

with your federal taxes, you could go
to the IRS and, if you qualified, make
an offer in compromise to reduce the
tax debt owed. Prior to Jan. 1, 2015,
you couldn't do that with your state
taxes. Before this new law took effect,
your options were limited. The most
common solution was to go
on a payment plan, which was
problematic for many taxpay-
ers. This new criteria gives
everyone in Michigan with
tax problems a new option for
resolving taxes owed. Now, for
example, if you're a business
owner who owes back sales
Levy taxes or payroll taxes, you
might qualify to make an offer
and reduce the debt.
