Goldberg is a clinical assistant
professor in the department of pedi-
atrics at the Wayne State University
School of Medicine in Detroit. He
is a recipient of the Robert Wood
Johnson Community Health Leaders
Award, the nation's most prestigious
honor in community public health,
as well as the Humanitarian of
the Year Award from the McCarty
Cancer Foundation. In 2012, he

Goldberg received his rabbinical
ordination from Yeshiva University,
where he also graduated summa

world on the subjects of spiritual-
ity and health, and has expanded
Kids Kicking Cancer to Canada,
Italy and Israel and conducts stress
seminars for adults at Fortune 500
companies.
At the end of each chapter in the
book is a QR code for phone scan-
ners or a website connection for
others to hear an audio meditation
reflecting the theme of that section.
"Every time the reader listens to
a meditation the numbers go up in
front of our Kids Kicking Cancer
children:' Goldberg said. "The lis-
tener will live longer; the children
will have less pain because they are
able to see how they are inspiring
the world.
"This book is a unique tool for
people to learn how to use their
breath to defeat the stress while at
the same time help lower the pain of
some very special children:' ❑

Hillel Dinner
To Fete Jewish
Education

MEGILLAH READING
H
illel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit in Farmington Hills
will celebrate Jewish educa-
tion at its Annual Dream Maker Dinner
on Sunday, May 17, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield.
This year's Dream Maker Award
honorees are the Audrey and William
Farber family, whose $5 million gift to
Hillel facilitated the transformation of
the school into a 21st-century building
where children engage in project-based
learning using the
latest in technology,
including 3D print-
ing, to pursue their
general and Jewish
studies curriculum.
The Rabbi Jacob E.
Segal Award goes to
Bob Canvasser
Bob Canvasser, a for-
mer board president
whose tireless devotion helped shepherd
the school through the establishment
of its 1:1 technology program and the
introduction of a tuition affordability
program.
"Both the Farber family and Bob
Canvasser are dream makers and change
agents," said Steve Freedman, Hillel
head of school. "They are people who
go well beyond words to actions. They
act on their beliefs and priorities, and
their understanding that without Jewish
education for our youth we cannot guar-
antee a strong Jewish future."
The dinner will also acknowledge
this year's distinguished alumni award
recipients, philanthropist Lisa Lis; car-
diac surgeon Charlie Schwartz, director
of cardiothoracic surgery at St. Joseph
Mercy Oakland; and Hy Safran, direc-
tor of strategic affairs for U.S. Sen. Gary
Peters.
The public is invited to celebrate all
honorees in the Shulman Scholarship
Journal distributed at the dinner. All
proceeds from the journal benefit
Hillel's tuition assistance program. To
