DANIEL "DAN"
PLISKOW, 79, of

Royal Oak, died Feb.
8, 2015.
He was a profes-
sional jazz bassist
for more than 60
years,
having started
Pliskow
at the age of 16. He
has donated items
to the Library of Congress, including
reel-to-reel tapes of jazz and jazz artists.
He also donated 13,000 photos of jazz
musicians to the Detroit Public Library
and donated jazz teaching materials to
Oakland University.
Adored by his students, including
Bobby Hurst and many others, Mr.
Pliskow taught upright string bass
at Wayne State University, played on
Channel 7 and was awarded a lifetime
achievement award for his jazz playing.
Mr. Pliskow is survived by his wife of
33 years, Phyllis; daughters and sons-in-
law, Steffanie (Paul Sabourin) Samuel-
Sabourin, Stephanie (Kelly MacDonald)
Pliskow, Sue (Mike Hall) Pliskow Hall,
Shari (Adoon Smith) Pliskow Smith,
Charles Pliskow; grandchildren, Jake
Samuels-Vosburgh, Leo Samuels-
Vosburgh, Justin (Cindy) MacDonald,
Walt (Qhim) Jones, Melissa (Harrison-
Gardner) Jones, Morgan Butzer (fiance,
Brett), Hody Jones. He is also survived
by Kate Bush and many loving nieces,
nephews, other relatives, friends and a
world of students and jazz lovers.
Mr. Pliskow was the dear father of the
late Ronald J. Samuels.

Hebrew Memorial Park Arrangements
by Hebrew Memorial Chapel.
