The second-grader at Havelind Elementary in Waterford has been singing since she could talk. "Ever since I was little, I wanted to be a rock star; she said. "I love to entertain people and make them happy:' That was the wish she shared with Rabbi Daniel Syme of Temple Beth El, who last year launched Angels and Dreamers, a foundation that helps Jewish children ages 7-11 do the mitzvahs they wish they could do if only they had the resources. Syme got in touch with pianist Jim Gabriel, the temple's accompanist and director of vocal arts at Cranbrook, to help Cameron plan a concert for the residents of Meer Apartments on the Applebaum Jewish Community Campus in West Bloomfield. "I thought it was wonderful that this young lady wanted to sing to residents, who love to have children visit," said Myriam Cohen, program director at Meer. At the event, which took place Jan. 11, 9-year-old Noah Ostheimer of White Lake emceed. Angels and Dreamers was Noah's brainchild, and he serves as chairman of the board. He spoke to Meer residents about the program. "I had a dream," he said, "to make a difference in the world:' With Syme's help, he was able to bring that dream to fruition. Since the founda- tion launched last year, children have done many mitzvahs, including taking a Holocaust survivor out to lunch, giv- ing furniture to a family in need, adding "kid love" to Temple Beth El's Mitzvah Meals program, raking leaves and read- ing to sick kids at the hospital. "We have plans to do a lot more," Noah said. Gabriel began the concert by play- ing some selections from his new CD Sojourn. Then Cameron sang songs from the movie Frozen. She and Gabriel took turns entertaining the group of 50 or so senior citizens who attended the concert. After the concert, residents received free copies of Gabriel's CD and enjoyed a cake provided by Angels and Dreamers. It wasn't Cameron's first time singing in front of a crowd. She sang to residents at Meer during Chanukah and also performed in her school's talent show last year. Cameron, who is on the stu- dent council, said the concert made her "feel really good about myself. I'm happy I'm here:' ❑ Emcee Noah Ostheimer, pianist Jim Gabriel and vocalist Cameron Warshawky teamed up to put on a concert at Meer Apartments.
