Classes Offered In
'The Art Of Parenting'
In order to help parents navigate the
stormy waters of child-rearing, begin-
ning Sunday, Jan. 18, Tugman Bais
Chabad Torah Center,
in partnership with
Jewish Federation's
J-Family and Hillel Day
School, will present The
Art of Parenting, a new
six-week JLI (Jewish
Learning Institute)
Rabbi Shneur
course that explores
Silberberg
parenting principles
and techniques rooted
in millennia of Jewish wisdom.
Rabbi Shneur Silberberg will con-
duct the sessions. There are two class
options each week, Sundays, 11 a.m. at
Hillel Day School in Farmington Hills
and Thursdays, 7 p.m. at the Jewish
Federation Building in Bloomfield
Township. Each class will run for an
hour. There will be a complimentary
breakfast and babysitting available at the
Sunday class.
"If we take the time to think about
how to be better fathers and mothers to
our children, it can — and will — make
a lifetime of a difference to our children,
and perhaps their children as weir said
Silberberg.
Topics range from how children and
parents should relate to each other to
how to help a child cultivate a healthy
self-esteem
The Art of Parenting is designed to
appeal to people at all levels of Jewish
knowledge, including those without
any prior experience or background in
Jewish learning.
Interested students may call (248)

A
s, write this, I'm listening to
the bustle of people crowding
outside HopCat, a bar that just
opened a stone's throw from my apart-
ment in Detroit.
It seems that every time I exit my
home, there are more and more busi-
nesses cropping up around me. As
Detroit rebuilds itself after bankruptcy
and new companies move into the city,
it's essential that we remember Detroit's
past and the people that put in the effort
to support its future when others were
betting against our city.
One of those people was Max Fisher.
A founder of Detroit Renaissance with
Henry Ford II in1970, Fisher spearhead-
ed development in Detroit through pro-
viding seed capital for housing projects,
wooing Robert McCabe on board to
plan big events such as the Grand Prix
and the Detroit Montreux International
Jazz Festival and encouraging business
