His grandfather Larry Michelson and Leonard Simons founded the 85-year-old company in Detroit in 1929. The firm conducted business in its Detroit office on Lafayette Boulevard from the 1930s to 1977, and in that year made its first move to Troy, to 3250 W. Big Beaver Road. The company's second move within the city came after 10 years, to 900 Wilshire, where it remained for 27 years. And now, SMZ's newest home since mid- October is at 1200 Kirts Boulevard, Suite 100, again in Troy. The city of Troy, he said, has always been a central location for both SMZ employees and clients, with highways and main roads offering easy accessibility. And SMZ, Michelson said, has been serving the needs of that diverse base of clients with tradition and family always in the picture "My grandfather and his partner, Leonard Simons, founded the firm right before the Great Depression as Simons- Michelson Co.:' said the friendly, upbeat Michelson. "They worked through history, build- ing up the agency, and in 1977, my father, Jim, and Leonard's son-in-law, Mort Zieve, bought the company, moved the agency to Troy and reincorporated as Simons Michelson Zieve, or SMZ, as we're known today:' Jamie Michelson
