Mike Kasky Grosse Pointe Temple Israel Acts As Local Homeless Shelter A local synagogue, mosque and several churches are uniting New Year's week to ensure the more than 30 men, women and children enrolled in the emer- gency shelter program of South Oakland Shelter (SOS) have a safe, warm place to reside. Temple Israel of West Bloomfield, Muslim Unity Center of Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham Unitarian Church and other churches are working side-by-side to pro- vide the space, food and volunteers. For the next six years, this theater company provided a venue for local Detroit youth interested in the performing arts and was the only professional children's theater in the Metro Detroit region. During its tenure in the city, the Peanut Butter Players put on performances such as PT: The Life Story of Barnum, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown and Happy Holidays from the Heart. Moreover, the theatertroupe performed at such venues as the New Center One building and the Jewish Community Center.
