I'm a social butterfly; attending intimate gatherings, work events, cocktail parties or grand soirees is exactly what I like to do. And, by far, appetizers and hors d'oeuvres are my favorite part of any meal. The different flavor combinations, the sassy or sweet sauces that accompany the tidbits and the extremes in tex- ture (crunchy, silky, chewy and soft) are right up my alley. In fact, I almost always say that the appetizers are better than the main dish. ❑ SMOKED WHITEFISH MOUSSE When I visit Northern Michigan, I can't help but think "smoked whitefish" when I'm there.
