as a Distinguished
Volunteer at its
Kaufman
Annual National
Philanthropy Day
Dinner, Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Distinguished Volunteers are the
advocates, leaders and mentors whose
passion for their respective causes
inspires philanthropic action and
community involvement in Southeast
Michigan. Kaufman has supported
Jewish Family Service for more than
12 years, bringing his financial exper-
tise to the executive committee. He
and his wife, Rozann, generously sup-
port JFS' transportation program,
helping provide 30,000 rides annually
to 800 homebound individuals. Jack
donates regularly and challenges
friends and colleagues to give to JFS.

Marty Bernstein of Troy, a freelance

writer/automotive journalist. He won
for the article he wrote with Jackie
Jouret, "The Amazing Max Hoffman,"
for Bimmer magazine.

Todd Sachse, CEO of Sachse
Construction, announced an award
won by Colsanti/Sachse, a Detroit-
based construction management and
contracting venture between Colasanti
Construction Services Inc. and Sachse
Construction, in collaboration with
Neumann/Smith Architecture. The
award, given by Engineering News-
Record Midwest as part of its regional
Best Projects 2014 Awards, was for
the work on "the Z:' a white zigzag
building in the heart of Detroit's cen-
tral business district at Library and
Broadway.

The Texas Auto Writers Association
announced winners in its eighth
annual Excellence in Craft competi-
tion in Dallas. First prize in the maga-
zine writing category was won by

Crain's Detroit Business recently pre-
sented the Max M. Fisher Award for
Outstanding Philanthropist to Marcia
and Eugene Applebaum. The
Applebaums' philanthropy has encom-
passed health care, education and
Jewish causes. Their list of beneficia-
ries is long and includes Applebaum's
alma mater, Wayne State University,
where the pharmacy school is named
for him; the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit; the Mayo Clinic;
the Weizmann Institute of Science in
Israel; Congregation Shaarey Zedek;
Beaumont Hospital; and Camp Maas
in Ortonville, as well as many less
public gifts.
