Don't Use Liberalism
To Excuse Terrorism
On a recent trip to New York, I heard
Peter Gelb, the executive director of
the Metropolitan Opera. He was com-
menting on his decision to perform the
Death of Klinghofer and the discontent
it caused in the Jewish community,
especially with the Anti-Defamation
League.
Mr. Gelb thought it appropriate
and important to present opera that
is current and pertinent. This opera's
composer, John Adams, had stated that
he had wanted to show the humanis-
tic side of what complete desperation
can lead to. He suggested that the
Palestinian terrorists that pushed a
wheelchair-bound Jewish American off
a ship they had commandeered was an
example of what people can be driven
to do when they are desperate.
A few days later, I visited the 9-11
Memorial Museum. Upon entering, I
was greeted with the words inscribed
on the wall that the destruction of the
World Trade Center was an act caused
by Islamic extremists. Another section
of the museum was devoted to the his-
tory of the Islamic Brotherhood and
their early act of defiance in the assas-
sination of Anwar Sadat. This display
continued to show the spread of Islamic
terrorism and the brutality of Hamas,
Hezbollah and Al Qaida. No excuses
or explanations were offered in the

museum for the causes of these acts of
barbarianism.
How unusual that within a few days,
the Metropolitan Opera in the Upper
West Side of the city offered possible
explanations for the killings of inno-
cents while the museum in Lower
Manhattan presented the history and
facts as they occurred without excuses.
Whom was Ito believe?
I might suggest that adversity and
desperation should be used to teach
understanding and the pursuit of peace.
Within the Islamic world, however,
adversity and desperation have been
perpetuated to serve the purpose of
teaching hatred, enlisting martyrs to
kill for the cause of Islam and promot-
ing barbarianism over modernity.
Liberalism and artistic license cannot,
and should not, be allowed to minimize,
rationalize and excuse terrorist acts.

This is a historic and beautiful day
because of President Obama. He is a
courageous man who has transformed
the lives of millions of people in the
most profoundly liberating way.
I couldn't be prouder of him and the

Yes, you guessed it, -rock."
That was easy. Let's try another
one. If you have $30,000 of
Credit Card debt at 20%
interest, how much interest will
you pay per year on the debt? The Answer
is $6,000. If you are in a 30% tax bracket,

do you know how much you need to make
to pay your taxes and net $6,000 to pay
the taxes? The Answer is $8,571. If you
are making $85,710 per year, do you know
how much of your income you are wasting
on the interest? The Answer is 10%. Next
Question - If you have credit card debt
like this, do you know what you should
do? The Answer is YOU NEED TO TAKE
ACTION to get rid of the debt, so the
$8,571 goes to pre-tax retirement savings
instead. If you earn 7% on your money in
an IRA or 401(k), do you know how much
the $8,571 will be in 15 years? The Answer
is $226,405. If you would rather have the
$226,405 than pay the credit card debt, do
you know what to do? The Answer - Call
Thav Gross - we do many things - but
there is nothing better than what we do
with credit card debt!
