ongregation Shaarey Zedek
celebrated the grand opening
Nov. 19 of the Berman Center
for Jewish Education. The center is on
the main floor of the educational wing
of the CSZ building in Southfield; it
features seven state-of-the-art class-
rooms, plus a library, resource room,
Beit Midrash and a lobby lounge.
The entire space has been completely
renovated with brand new furniture,
technology and LED lighting as well
as new security doors and the latest in
security equipment specifically recom-
mended by experts for school settings.
Before a crowd of more than 100
people, the synagogue expressed its
gratitude to visionary philanthropist
Mandell "Bill" Berman and his wife,
Madeleine.
Speakers included congregational
president Mary Knoll; CSZ vice presi-
dent and building project chair Larry
Nemer; Federation CEO Scott Kaufman;

education ventures co-hosted by the
CSZ and Federation's Alliance for Jewish
Education. The educational wing also
includes 15 additional classrooms and
a large meeting room/lounge, making
it a desirable venue for large meetings
and conferences. Cantor David Propis
sang the Shehechyanu prayer, offering
thanks to God for reaching this special
moment.
"It is important for our religious
school students to experience Jewish
life and learning through the
most innovative of techno-
logical resources as well as the
creativity of camp-style, expe-
riential education" Starr said.
"Adults should be blessed to
learn in this way as well. The
Berman Center allows us to
offer children and adults alike
a joyful, meaningful, 21st-
