Photos by Jerry Zolyns ky metro >> around town 'Gambling' For A Cause Jewish Dental Clinic's Monte Carlo Night honored the clinic and volunteers. M ore than 150 guests enjoyed a host of casino games at the annual Jewish Dental Clinic Monte Carlo Night Nov. 2 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. The evening included a strolling dinner, enter- tainment by Mel Ball Music and enough gaming chips to spend a few hours with lenient dealers who understood the event was a charity fundraiser. Proceeds go to the Jewish Dental Clinic in Southfield, where volunteer professionals provide quality oral health care free to those in need in the Jewish community. The clinic operates on a budget of about $100,000 annually. From March 2009 to September 2014, more than 800 patients have been seen (with 35 on the waiting list) by 64 volunteering dentists and 55 volunteer specialists, hygienists, assistants and community members. The clinic, a project of the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, is open three to five days a week. To donate to the clinic or volunteer, call (248) 497-6224. Bill and Melissa Berlin of Southfield and Elana and Max Berlin of Oak Park Zombie Apocalypse T Barbara and Dean Pichette of Southfield he Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield held its first Zombie Apocalypse Run on Oct. 26 on the JCC grounds. The 5k run and walk involved teams with three flags each that needed to make it through the course without being captured by zombies. The runners outnumbered the zombies 72-17, Miriam and David Zuroff of Southfield JCC hosts a family run/walk where the "undead" try to interfere. but the undead did some definite damage to teams along the way. The event drew families, with ages ranging from 12 through the 60s.
