Lynne Konstantin I Contributing Writer Cologne, Germany-based art book publisher Taschen, who treats books as works of art themselves, has a magnificent new offering: After years of asking to publish her work, photographer Annie Leibovitz finally agreed. The result is the newest in Taschen's massive SUMO series, a limited-edition series of 10,000 signed and numbered copies, featuring one of four different dust jackets (including Keith Haring, shown, David Byrne, Patti Smith and Whoopi Goldberg). ANNIE LEIBOVITZ: THE COLLECTOR'S EDITION ($2,500) is 3 inches thick, 2.5-feet tall, 476 spectacular pages and comes with its own special stand in the shape of a tripod, designed by Marc Newson. Drawing from more than 40 years of work, from Rolling Stone to Vanity Fair and Vogue, Leibovitz chose her favorite photos for the book, which includes her iconic portraits of actors, dancers, comedians, musicians and more, including Cate Blanchett (pictured in 2004), Scarlett Johansson, Eudora Welty, John Lennon and Yoko Ono and a black-and-white photo of Richard Nixon's helicop- ter lifting off from the White House lawn following his resignation as president in 1974. A supple- mentary book includes an essay by Leibovitz and short texts about each of the 250 photos. Available at Zieben-Mare, Franklin (248-539- 8879; ziebenmare.com ).
