"This renovation is a tremendous invest-
ment by Wayne State University in our Hillel
and in ensuring a prominent Jewish presence
on campus," said Miriam Starkman, HMD
executive director. "We are most appreciative

Victoria, born Ma
am so fortunate to be a part of the
Wayne State University Jewish Student
Organization (JSO), a group under the
Hillel of Metro Detroit (HMD) umbrella. For
two years, I have enjoyed HMD's lounge, and
now I can enjoy the space after the renova-
tions. HMD has been transformed into a more
welcoming and comfortable environment for
students.
The renovation has given me the ability to
meet more people and has given our JSO and
other Jewish groups on campus a wonderful
collaborative space to work in. Whether it's
a place to study, an area to meet as a com-
mittee or a time to socialize, the new HMD
provides all of these aspects and more.
"The new renovations have a super inviting
feeling. I just want to hang out at Hillel now
that it looks so cool," said junior Chaim Levitz.
The facility was renovated by WSU. The
goal was to create a more efficient, useful
office and lounge space and included new fur-
niture. More desks and quiet study spaces are
available, and a popular attraction remains
the printing area, where students can print for
free, a benefit for all of us.

of their support."
Manny Cohen, a sophomore biology stu-
dent, said, "HMD's new lounge is innovative
and cutting edge, offering a comfortable and
technologically equipped area for Jewish stu-
dents to collaborate and socialize, maximizing
their space, time and social interactions."
With its new kitchen, HMD now has the
ability to make challah and hold cooking
events in the lounge — and food is some-
thing that has the power to bring so many
people together.
The new white boards provide an outlet to
promote events and update students on the
current happenings at Hillel. The new lounge,
with couches, large tables and an open floor
plan, provides a place where Jewish students
can congregate and feel comfortable in a safe,
inviting environment.
Most importantly, this renovation has
allowed Jewish students on campus to
become a closer community.
"HMD's renovations are simply gorgeous!
It's such a nice place to do homework and
hang out with friends," said Aidel Finman, a
senior art major. @
