Help Needed To Fund
Drivers Who Aid Seniors
ITNMetroDetroit is an affiliate of
ITNAmerica, the first national nonprofit
transportation service for older people.
ITNMetroDetroit has been delivering
rides to the community since November
2012, but the current board really needs
help. That help can take the form of
office space, new board members, volun-
teer drivers, car donations, or simply a
check or end-of-the-year stock donation.
ITNMetroDetroit still has a little
money in the bank and a willing and
capable rides coordinator, JaWanda
Mitchell. But after months of seeking
help from the community, the current
board has sent notice to ITNAmerica
that they wish to close the service.
As the founder and executive director
of the national organization, I feel that
a primary reason we are here is to help
our affiliates when times get tough.
Helping families, especially families
separated geographically, is one of the
reasons I started ITN. Inadequate trans-
portation is a primary reason older driv-
ers stay behind the wheel when it is no
longer safe for them to drive.
At the same time, I knew that
ITNMetroDetroit was really struggling,
that the board had given us a 90-day
notice to close the doors and that I was
running out of time to help.
The 90 days is up Nov. 10. Here are
some things the Detroit community can
do to save this valuable service for older
people:
• Serve on the board. Email Morgan.
Jameson@ITNAmerica.org .
• Donate an office space. The current
free space has been withdrawn. Email
Morgan.Jameson@ITNAmerica.org.
• Donate on line at itnmetrodetroit.
org/ways-give.
• Send a check to ITNMetroDetroit at
27177 Lahser, Suite 102, Southfield, MI
48034.
• Donate a car at www.itnamerica.org/
ways-give/donate-your-car.
• Donate stock at wwwitnamerica.
org/ways-give/gifts-stock.
• Volunteer to drive. Call Jawanda at
(248) 262-7269 or email her at JaWanda.
Mitchell@ITNMetroDetroit.org.
I am happy to speak with anyone who
wishes to help or to learn more. My
personal cell phone is (207) 415-1630. I
travel often and am sometimes difficult
to reach. Please don't hesitate to use my
cell phone number.
Also, Morgan Jameson is
ITNAmerica's representative for
ITNMetroDetroit. She can be reached at
(207) 591-6945.
For questions about donations to
help ITNMetroDetroit, Heidi Farber at
ITNAmerica can also help.

Book Fair Events
Are Too Costly
Regarding "The Dish on Book Fair"
(Oct. 30, page 59), I stifled a chuckle
upon reading that, "Unless otherwise
noted, all events [at the 63rd Annual
Jewish Book Fair] are free" The reverse
should honestly be stated that, unless
otherwise noted, all events have a charge
of at least $12. Hardly free.
Of the 41 book reviews and events in
West Bloomfield, I counted 19 with a
charge of $12-$36, almost half. All of the
evening events, to which most working
people would be able to attend, are with
a charge, as well as many in the after-
noon.
I have attended and enjoyed the Book
Fair for many years, but this year it's
just too expensive to bother. Maybe if
enough other people feel the same way,
the organizers will get the message for
next year.

Israel Documentary Shows
Jews' Connection To Land
Congratulations and thank you to
the Zionist Organization of America-
Michigan Region for showing 300 people
Gloria Z. Greenfield's Body and Soul: The
State of the Jewish Nation, at the Berman
on Oct. 29. The film helped me further
understand how we Jews are connected
to the Land of Israel and what the land is
to the Jews, to Judaism and to history.
Wonderful maps, illustrated manu-
scripts, archeological artifacts, ancient
coins, drawings, paintings, photographs,
legal documents, highlighted newspaper
articles and videos accompanied a rapid
succession of scholarly experts.
Greenfield has carefully assembled
ambassadors, archeologists, authors and
experts in anti-Semitism, historians,
journalists, legal scholars, parliamentar-
ians, rabbis and Christian theologians.
It shows clearly that Jews are the
indigenous people of the Holy Land. Our
history, in Israel, began more than 3,000
years ago, and all our sacred journeys,
both religious and geographic, have been
toward the Promised Land, the Holy
Land and Jerusalem. No other destroyer
or occupier ever came to stay in Jewish
Israel. They massacred, occupied,
dispersed the Jews — and then disap-
peared.

- Rachel Kapen
I feel that the film is truth's weapon
against falsehood and the lethal anti-
Israel narrative that is, at its core, geno-
cidal.
I encourage every religious school
principal and director to make sure
every student sees this movie and is
offered an opportunity to ask questions
to a knowledgeable teacher.
Equally important, every college Hillel
and Jewish youth group should show
and discuss this documentary.

Yes, you guessed it, "rock."
That was easy. Let's try another
one. If you have $30,000 of
Credit Card debt at 20%
interest, how much interest will
you pay per year on the debt? The Answer
is $6,000. If you are in a 30% tax bracket,
do you know how much you need to make
to pay your taxes and net $6,000 to pay
the taxes? The Answer is $8,571. If you
are making $85,710 per year, do you know
how much of your income you are wasting
on the interest? The Answer is 10%. Next
Question - If you have credit card debt
like this, do you know what you should
do? The Answer is YOU NEED TO TAKE
ACTION to get rid of the debt, so the
$8,571 goes to pre-tax retirement savings
instead. If you earn 7% on your money in
an IRA or 401(k), do you know how much
the $8,571 will be in 15 years? The Answer
is $226,405. If you would rather have the
$226,405 than pay the credit card debt, do
you know what to do? The Answer - Call
Thav Gross - we do many things - but
there is nothing better than what we do
with credit card debt!
