B'nai B'rith Scholarships

There were more than 350 people
in attendance at the Berman Center
for Performing Arts when B'nai
B'rith Great Lakes Region's College
Scholarship Program kicked off its
second annual fundraising event,
by hosting the concert, "Broadway
Express ... All Aboard"
Featured were a trio of home-
town musical theater performers,
Danny Gurwin, Erin Dilly and
Dana Steingold, who entertained
with Broadway standards and clas-
sic medleys from Irving Berlin to
West Side Story. Joining them was a
children's choir directed by Cantor

Penny Steyer and special guests
Nancy Gurwin and Danny Kornfeld.
The proceeds, along with endow-
ments and sponsorships, will help
provide a local resource for local
students looking for financial assis-
tance with college tuition. This past
June, the scholarship committee was
able to award scholarships for four
high school seniors.

B'nai Moshe Celebrates
Breast Cancer Awareness
In recognition of Breast Cancer
Awareness month — and to kick off
Congregation B'nai Moshe and its
sisterhood's sponsorship of breast
cancer survivor Geralyn Lucas 11:30
a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the JCC
Jewish Book Fair in West Bloomfield
— the sanctuary was turned pink on
Shabbat morning, Oct. 25.
Nearly all the attendees wore
pink. Lisa Soble Siegmann spoke of
being a cancer survivor. Rabbi Elliot
Pachter then invited all people who
have been affected by cancer to join
him on the bimah as the congrega-
tion sang Debbie Friedman's healing
prayer, "Mishabeirach."
It was the congregation's inten-
tion to encourage women in atten-
dance who were not planning on
being tested for cancer to make an
appointment.
