StandWithUs-MI
Festival Of Lights
On Sunday, Dec. 7, at 5:30 p.m.,
StandWithUs-Michigan (SWU-MI) will
present its annual Festival of Lights cel-
ebration at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield
Township.
Dr. Herbert and Margot Gardner will
be honored with the prestigious Beacon
of Light Award. The celebration will
feature world-renowned speaker Edwin
Black, food and live music. Chairpersons
of Festival of Lights are Reva Rosen and
Ed Kohl.
Founded in 2001, StandWithUs tells
Israel's story around the globe via pub-
lications, conferences, social media,
videos and through missions. Also,
StandWithUs trains student activists to
share Israel's narrative in high schools
and on college campuses.
The Gardners' daughter experienced
anti-Israel hostility in 1988 from one of
her University of Michigan professors,
but no campus organization was pre-
pared to help. In 2006, the newly formed
SWU-MI Chapter filled that void. The
Gardners were thankful and very sup-
portive.
With Herb's help, Margot has taken
many active roles in the work of SWU-
MI. She chaired the Library Project;
helped college students challenge anti-
Israel divestment efforts; wrote pro-Israel
letters to the media; participated in Buy
Israeli Goods campaigns; developed
Israel education programs; and ques-
tioned anti-Israel speakers at community
events. Currently, Herb is chapter trea-
surer.
Festival of Lights guest speaker Black
is the award-winning international
investigative author of 11 books available
in many languages and countries. He is a
sought-after speaker on television news-
casts and writes for online newsletters.
His work focuses on diverse topics such
as genocide; corporate, government and
academic corruption; oil addiction and
alternative energy.
Black's latest book is Financing the
Flames: How Tax-Exempt and Public
Money Fuel a Culture of Confrontation
and Terrorism in Israel.
To receive your Festival of Lights
invitation, contact SWU-MI President
Barbara Moretsky at (248) 891-2563 or
email standwithusmichigan@gmail.com.
The online invitation can be accessed at
wwwstandwithus.com. Make reserva-
tions by Nov. 24.
