S imchat Torah services at Temple Kol Ami in West Bloomfield were filled with music and a dramatic tradition in which one Torah scroll is totally unrolled and the parchment is held in a circle by congregants. Rabbi Norman Roman would go around the room picking out special passages to show those holding the parchment near the words. The Kol Ami tradition truly allows congregants to hold, touch and be close to the Torah. ❑ Top right: Rabbi Norman Roman and Tiffany Green, cantorial soloist, prepare the congregation to return the Torahs to the ark.
