DR. SHELDON
APPLEFIELD, 86, of
Longboat Key, Fla., and
West Bloomfield, died
Oct. 14, 2014.
He is survived by his
sons and daughters-in-
law, Dr. Daniel Applefield
Applefield
and Lisa Walters of
Waterford, and Dr. Michael Applefield
and Beth Lieberman of West Bloomfield;
grandchildren, Alexa, Per Justin, Rachel
and Joan Applefield; sister-in-law, Gloria
Hurwitz.
Dr. Applefield was the beloved husband
of the late Joan Applefield; the dear brother-
in-law of the late Jack Hurwitz; the devoted
son of the late Morris J. and the late Sadie
Applefield.
Interment was at Machpelah Cemetery.

SIDNEY BARBAS, 94, of
Bloomfield Hills, died
Oct. 19, 2014.
As chairman of York
Properties Inc., he had
been exclusively involved
in the real estate business
for more than 40 years.
Prior to that time, he
owned and operated a chain of drug stores.
This chain, operating under the names of
Barbas Drugs and Dandy Drugs, was origi-
nally founded by Mr. Barbas in 1948. Prior
to 1969, he had expanded the business to
operate a significant chain of drug stores
and a wholesale drug and sundries distribu-
tion operation as president and principal
shareholder of Dandy Drug Stores Inc. In
1969, he sold the entire business to a New
York Stock Exchange-listed company where
he became an executive officer and director.
Mr. Barbas founded York Properties in
1971 and was involved in the real estate
business on a full-time basis. He had exten-
sive experience in the acquisition of numer-
ous apartment communities and had also
developed mobile home communities and

commercial properties. As owner of York,
Mr. Barbas managed the real estate opera-
tions in which he was involved.
He graduated from Wayne State
University (formerly Wayne University) in
1944 with a bachelor of science degree in
pharmacy and had been a registered phar-
macist in Michigan.
Mr. Barbas is survived by his son and
daughter-in-law, Andrew and Lisa Barbas of
West Bloomfield; daughter and son-in-law,
Dr. Nancy Barbas and Dr. Jonathan Sugar
of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, Adrienne
Barbas and Ben Croft, Matthew Barbas,
Brian Barbas, Abby Sugar and Sylvie
Lardeux, and Leigh Sugar; sisters, Mollie
Lipsitz and Lottie Gellerman; caregiver,
Cynthanee Green; his beloved dog, Peepers.
He was the beloved husband of the late
Elaine Barbas; the loving brother of the late
Nathan Barbas, the late Sarah Gutman and
the late Dora Kaplan; the dear brother-in-
law of the late Harry Lipsitz, the late Aaron
Gellerman, the late Marion Barbas, the late
William Gutman, the late Jack Kaplan, the
late Morris and the late Anne Werney, the
late Sam Werney, the late Ida and the late
Allen Kramer, the late Bess and the late
Barney Mills, and the late Violet and the
late Harry Bayer, the late Rose and the late
Harry Perlman.
Interment was at Machpelah Cemetery.

law of the late Samuel Levin, the late Betty
Rothenberg, the late Harry Ribiat, the late
Sidney Ring, the late Sam Herkowitz, the late
Abe Weinstein, the late Hyman Sherman, the
late Irving Tyner and the late Charles Deitch.
Interment was at Beth El Memorial Park

STUART JOEL
BERMAN, 38, of West
Bloomfield, died Sept. 26,
2014, due to a possible
heart attack at the wheel
of his vehicle.
He owned and oper-
ated Prestige Parking,
Berman
which was a valet service
and parking establish-
ment. His slogan was "Make your event a
prestigious one by adding convenience and
a touch of class."
The family will always remember his
smiling face, his pleasant demeanor and the
extremely hard battle he must have fought
to stay around longer. They are sure that
