Obituaries

76, former resident
of Grosse Pointe,
West Bloomfield,
Sarasota, Fla., and
Rochester Hills, died
Oct. 14, 2014, as a
result of injuries suf-
fered in a fall at

home.
Born in Detroit, Mr. Loren gradu-
ated as valedictorian from Detroit's
Central High School and cum laude
in economics from the University
of Michigan. He received his mas-
ter's degree in labor economics
from Princeton University, where he
also was an associate professor. At
Princeton, he received a prestigious
grant to do research in the undevel-
oped African country of Malawi. He
then taught labor economics at UCLA
and was recruited by the UAW in
Detroit to be a senior labor negotiator
for, among others, the auto industry,
the farm equipment industry and Kraft
foods. He was noted for negotiating the
very first dental insurance benefit for
Ford with other auto companies fol-
lowing. Mr. Loren retired as director of
human resources at American Axle.
He was affectionately known as "Big
Guy" and "Grandpa Big Guy" by his
children and grandchildren.
He is survived and will be dearly
missed by his beloved wife and best
friend of 31 years, Lynne (nee Reed);
his children, Peter (Cindy) and David
(Ellen); stepchildren, Todd Stone
(Susan) and Sara Ray (Steven); grand-
children, Brendan, Megan, Ryan, Will
and Katherine; loving sisters, Carolyn
Weiss (Calvin), Marilyn Maas (James)
and Rosalyn Barclay (Mel); former
sister-in-law, Christine; many nieces,
nephews, coworkers and numerous
lifelong friends.

Mr. Loren was preceded in death by
his parents, Pauline and Morris; and
brother, Leonard.
Interment was held at Oakview
Cemetery in Royal Oak. Arrangements
by Dorfman Chapel.

JEANNETTE MAGNER, 90, of
Southfield, died Oct. 12, 2014.
She is survived by her daughters and
son-in-law, Sara Greenberg, Mindy
Magner Seltzer and Rob Seltzer; son,
Joel Magner; grandchildren, Ben and
Aura Greenberg, Matthew and Jillian
Greenberg, Anna Deangelo, Emily
Magner and Loren Ferar, David Seltzer,
Leslie and Mark Sassin, and Dani
Seltzer; great-grandchildren, Isabella
and Noam Greenberg.
Mrs. Magner was the beloved wife of
the late Leonard Magner and the late
Ben Reder; loving mother-in-law of the
late Rick Greenberg.
Interment was at Machpelah
