Competing in boys tennis,
basketball and lacrosse in the
first year of the merger between
Bloomfield Hills Andover and
Bloomfield Hills Lahser high
schools, Dylan Deitch was a tennis
and basketball team captain. The
basketball team played for a state
championship.
Dylan Deitch is now a freshman
at the University of Michigan. He
said he can't remember his father's
actual Hall of Fame induction,
but he does have great memories
of attending the induction dinner
several times during his child-
hood.
"And now it's come full circle
with me getting this award:' the
18-year-old said.
He said last year was a challenge
because of the merger.
"To be honest, it was difficult
at the start:' he said. "Teams were
mixed and matched together. It
was a huge transition for everyone.
"But we eventually came togeth-
er with one common goal, to have
the best season we can:'
Dylan Deitch played four years
of tennis, three years of basket-
ball and one year of baseball and
lacrosse in high school.
Jeff Deitch, 53, was one of the
country's top squash players. He
says being in the Hall of Fame is
special to him because he shares
the honor with mentors and
heroes.
He said he looks forward to
attending the induction dinner
each year to meet the new induct-
ees and enjoy the camaraderie
with past honorees, who are rec-
ognized at the dinner.
Among the nearly 100 Hall
of Fame inductees are Hank
Greenberg and Bill Davidson
and two family combinations:
father and son Stuart and Storm
Kirschenbaum and brothers Rick
and Bruce Seid.
"There have been so many wor-
thy inductees. Unfortunately, some
haven't been alive for their induc-
tion, but it's still a special event for
their families," Blatt said. "We're
making every effort not to forget
anyone:'
Cocktails, dinner, tours of the
Hall of Fame and a silent auction
will be held from 5-6:45 p.m. Oct.
28 with the program and a dessert
reception at 7 p.m.
