Turn Your Old Vehicle
Into A Donation For JVS
Do you have an old vehicle that you
no longer are using? Donate it to JVS
for a tax deduction.
JVS's car donation program accepts
cars, trucks, RVs, boats and motor-
cycles. The vehicle does not have to
be in running condition; however, it
must have an engine and be towable.
To donate, visit www.jvsdet.org/cars
and complete a car donation form or
call (855) JVS-4CAR. A representative
will pick up your vehicle within two
or three business days at no cost.
Proceeds from your donation will
support the most vulnerable in our
community — people with disabili-
ties, unemployed workers, the frail
elderly and at-risk youth who are
served by JVS.

n the evening of Oct. 3, 2014,
Jewish people from all around
the world will make their way
to synagogue for the most important
Judaic holiday, Yom Kippur. As is
customary, Jews will refrain from work,
fast throughout the day and attend
religious services. Yom Kippur occurs
on the 10th day of Tishrei, which is the
seventh month of the Jewish calendar.
The name "Yom Kippur" means "Day
of Atonement" and is a day set aside for
people of the Jewish faith to atone for
their sins for the past year.
However, 41 years ago on Oct. 6, 1973,
the nation of Israel suffered a surprise
attack, and the IDF was forced to defend
it during this Day of Atonement. After
almost three weeks of war, and near
catastrophe for the Israelis, the war
concluded on Oct. 25, 1973, with a
victory for the Israelis. It is now known
