ark your calendars: It's never
too soon to start thinking
about your holiday shop-
ping list or to slip a little some-
thing for yourself in the bag —
especially when the offerings are
this good.
Target has teamed up with
TOMS for a holiday-launch part-
nership of do-gooding (and awe-
some shopping) extraordinaire.
Both companies are known for
their legacies of giving: Minne-
apolis-based Target donates 5
percent of yearly profits to their
communities, plus hundreds of
thousands of hours in volunteer
work.
And in 2006, while traveling to
Argentina and seeing that many
children went without shoes,
Blake Mycoskie founded TOMS
specifically in an effort to provide
a pair of shoes to a child in need
every time a new pair was pur-
chased (the fact that the colorful
canvas slip-ons became fashion
icons was style gravy). TOMS has
grown its business model of One
for One into one that supports
health, education and more for
communities around the world.
The Target and TOMS collabo-
ratory meeting-of-the-minds to
give back with good design ac-
cessible to everyone will launch
in Target stores and online Nov.
16.
TOMS for Target will offer more
than 50 items, each under $50,
and will extend beyond TOMS'
beloved slip-on — which will,
of course, be included, for men,
women and children — to blan-
kets, bracelets, clothing, candles,
journals, picture frames, iPhone
cases and more.
Best of all, for every TOMS for
Target apparel, accessory and
home goods purchase, a dona-
tion will be made of a blanket
through the Red Cross or one
week of meals through Feeding
America; for every pair of shoes
sold, a pair will go to a child in
need.
"I'm so excited about the TOMS
and Target partnership," says
Mycoskie. "There are great gift
ideas that are inspired by real
travel experiences and also very
functional stuff that can be used
all year long. It feels very authen-
tic?'
