emple Shir Shalom held
its 10th annual Food, Fun
& Fireworks Celebration
on Aug. 18 at its campus in West
Bloomfield. More than 900 people
attended the event, with athletes, par-
ticipants and host families from the
JCC Maccabi & ArtsFest joining the
festivities at the end to enjoy the fire-
works show.
"The vibe was just great this year:'
said Conor Mendenhall of Detroit.
"The restaurants that attended seemed
very excited to be part of this event.
This was my first year attending, and it
was a great time!"
More than 40 local restaurants par-
ticipated, and Jewish News food col-
umnist Danny Raskin was on hand to
urge all to sample the wonderful food.

Les Gold of Hardcore Pawn and a
member of Shir Shalom has been pro-
viding fireworks for the event since its
inception. For the past two years, he
also has hosted a live auction, where
a suite at Comerica Park, the rabbis'
parking spots for High Holy Days and
other exciting items were auctioned
off.
"We host this event every year at
about the same time, the third Monday
of August:' said Andre Douville, execu-
tive director. "We really enjoy having
the community join us to celebrate
Shir Shalom:'
This year's event was chaired by
Katie Brown, who worked with profes-
sional staff, lay leaders and more than
50 volunteers. ❑
