Fisher Fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. The groups will be donating $100,000 to Detroit-based causes. The charity that raises the most throughout the challenge will receive a $50,000 donation. Second place gets $20,000 and third gets $10,000. Yad Ezra is gunning for first place. "A $50,000 donation would mean so much to us as $50,000 is our monthly food budget to serve 3,000 individuals in need:' said Leah Luger, who heads Yad Ezra. Hear New One-Act Plays By Local Playwrights Playwrights @ Work, a local playwrit- ing group affiliated with the Village Players of Birmingham, will present one of its semi-annual, free, short- play festivals, Shorts and Sweets, on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. The festival will be at the Village Players playhouse, Woodward Avenue and Chestnut Street (two blocks south of Maple) in Birmingham. Six original short plays, each 10-15 minutes long, will be presented in a staged reading format. Three Jewish playwrights are among the authors: Myron Stein, 72, of Southfield, a juvenile court probation officer and art teacher; Steve Sussman, 64, of Bloomfield Hills, an architect; and Joe Feinstein, 83, of Farmington Hills, a retired English teacher.
