Fashion shows, a pop-up shop, easy shoes for fall and more.

WORK IT

Jennifer Lossia McManus and Megan Bonanni
Khoury know what's good for them — and what
they like. Both are busy moms, employment and
civil-rights attorneys with full-time law practices,
yoga and exercise regulars — and, of course,
longtime friends who love to follow fashion.
To keep it all together, easily, comfortably and
stylishly — priorities on their lists — they have
joined their considerable forces to create Capsule
Detroit, which will bring high-quality, comfortable
and cool athletic wear to Metro Detroit women.
To launch the collection, they will host a Capsule
Detroit Pop-Up Shop,10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and
Saturday, Sept.19-20, at My House of Style in
Birmingham, in collaboration with owner Diane
Harris.
"We wear some sort of athletic wear almost
daily," says McManus, who desired both a creative
outlet as well as options beyond the standard,
chain-store offerings. "We, along with many of
our friends, grew tired of ordering clothes online, only to return them because
they didn't fit properly or the fabric wasn't what we expected. So we decided
to step up the game and bring some of the niche, smaller-scale lines that we
love to Detroit and share them with our fellow fitness enthusiasts."
Among the lines Capsule Detroit will offer are Michi, Elisabetta Rogiani,
Nesh, Alala, Prism Sport and Chill by Will — all designed and made in small
batches in the USA — with more added continually.
"Each of our designers has its own unique aesthetic, from the classic gym/
yoga/cross-fit look to the edgy, sexy mesh and cutout yoga looks," McManus
says. "We want to carry a wide variety of styles to reflect our clients' personal
lifestyles. Plus, we believe that if you feel good in what you're wearing, your
workout will be more productive."
They will also offer high-quality leisure pieces, including silk track pants and
mesh-and-jersey layered tops "that can be worn from the gym to kids' soccer
practice to a Saturday night out."

Two favorite fashion events help shine the spotlight on Michigan: Since its launch in 2012
Michigan Fashion Week, which helps bring attention to Michigan and the Midwest's growing
industry of designers, artists and models, has made such an impression that it earned its
founder, Loren Jordan, recognition by Crain's Detroit Business as one of "20 in their 20s 2013."
This year's event, scheduled Sept. 24-27 at the Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac, will include
designers Heather Danielle Jarosz, Loren "LOJO" Jordan, Jireh De Jose, Lady Liberty, Jesse
Jane, TAJ Cottage, Bella Ecienna, Matt Richmond and more; a portion of proceeds will benefit
BLOOM, a nonprofit that helps young girls transition from children to responsible adults. $25-
$50. For details and tickets, visit michiganfashionweek.com .
On Saturday, Sept. 27, the fourth annual Fashion In Detroit Show and Afterglow, founded
by Project Runway alum Joe Faris, will also help bring Detroit onto the international fashion
scene. The event, at Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel, includes runway shows, Market
Detroit (an interactive pop-up shop) and more. $25-$75. For details, visit fashionindetroit.com
or ticketmaster.com .
