Everything our
grandfathers
stood for.

What's in
a name?

We represent each of their names.
And all of their values.

The name "Talmer" combines the last names of
our principals' grandfathers–two remarkable
humanitarians who shared a common purpose:
to enrich the communities they served. Which
is why being a bank that puts our community
and its citizens first isn't just our business – it's
our mission.

Visit www.talmerbank.com to find out how we
can best serve you, your family or your business.

"We all liked our captain" said
Sydney, 98. "We would do anything
we could to keep him out of trouble
So Sydney told him to "not do any-
thing" about the mistake. Until now
So, why does it matter now? In
a phone call, Sydney told me "the
award was of no consequence [back]
thee However, as the decades
passed, Sydney reflected more on
the importance of what he had
endured and the impact that legacy
would and should have on future
generations. It's a part of history
that he felt his "grandkids would be
proud" of.
Like Sydney, the Feldman brothers
exhibit the same degree of humility
and humbleness that I find in every
Jewish War Veteran I have had the
privilege of meeting. The war was
never about them; it was about a
love of country.
"It was my choice to go:" said
Jacob. "WWII was in progress and
it was necessary to defend your
country ... the U.S. is the Golden
Heaven."
His younger brother shared the
same sentiment with me during a
recent visit. "I was going to do what
I had to do:' Henry said. "If I lived, I
lived. If I died, I died."
Words are not adequate enough
to describe the admiration I have
for the Feldman brothers, Sidney
Leitson and all of our precious
WWII veterans. Their patriotism
and sacrifice is what inspires me to
continue my work as a board mem-
ber of the Michigan WWII Legacy
Memorial — our state's tribute to its
contributions during WWII.
The memorial, to be built in
Memorial Park in Royal Oak, will
pay homage to Michigan residents
who served on the war front and the
homefront, and whose remarkable
sacrifice and devotion helped save
the world.

Though fitting, it was by sure
coincidence that this look back at
some of our WWII heroes ended
up being published shortly after
the 13th anniversary of 9-11. It's a
reminder that despite the best efforts
of our Greatest Generation, the war
against evil rages on. For that rea-
son, we must give thanks to not only
the men and women of our armed
services from generations passed,
but also to those who continue to
protect our freedoms today from the
many fronts of terrorism that seek to
destroy us.
