A Kibbutz Love Story
Many years later, Facebook discovery leads to marriage in Michigan.
T
hey met on an Israeli banana field in
the summer of 1991 ... He was 13
years old, born and raised at Kibbutz
Maayan Zvi ... and she was 21, an American
who fell in love with Israel after making
aliyah and became a member of the kibbutz
where they worked side-by-side with each
other for two years ... She had gone to Israel
in the program where a person works and
studies Hebrew on a kibbutz.
Marcie Gerenraich left the kibbutz to get
married ... Eran Reznik visited her when
Marcie's first daughter was born, went into
the Israeli Army, married and divorced, trav-
eled to India and returned to study Chinese
medicine and acupuncture.
Years
later, on
Facebook, he
recognized
a picture
of Marcie,
now also
divorced, as
the girl he
once worked
next to in
the Kibbutz
Eran and Marcie Reznik
Maayan Zvi
banana field
... Eran closed his acupuncture clinic in
Israel and moved to Michigan.
Marcie and Eran were secretly married in
a Novi courthouse and became Mr. and Mrs.
Eran Reznik ... He had already received his
American board credentials and national
certifications in acupuncture, massage and
body work
Marcie had become a talented manicur-
ist and is considered among the finest nail
technicians in this region ... Seventeen years
working at three other salons and now hold-
ing hands about four of those years at the
highly regarded Maya Skin Care Center and
Salon on Orchard Lake Road, in the West
Bloomfield Plaza, West Bloomfield.
Eran is a massage and body work
energy therapist with Michigan
Associates for Acupuncture and
Integrative Medicine in West
Bloomfield.
Last summer, they traveled
to Israel, and in front of family
and friends were married under
a chupah on the same kibbutz
where they first met each other.
Both love food ... When
they go to a restaurant here, it
is usually for sushi, with their
favorite place Mene Sushi in West
Bloomfield, or to eateries that feature Middle
Eastern dishes ... At home, Eran is the cook
and baker when he isn't doing ninjutsu
martial arts with
friend, Yost Fulton ...
and Marcie does the
dishes.
Eran and Marcie
today realize that as
close friends, they
truly did love each
other greatly years
ago back there on
the Israeli kibbutz
banana field when
he was 13 and she
was 21.
FINE AWARD WINNING Executive
Chef Hai-Ying Bushey is no longer at Prime
29 Steakhouse, 15 Mile and Orchard Lake
Road, West Bloomfield.
NEW GENERAL MANAGER at
Steven Lelli's Inn On the Green, 12 Mile,
Farmington Hills, Reza Ansari, never origi-
nally intended to follow a restaurant career
... He was a waiter and maitre d' at the Hyatt
Regency Dearborn while attending Detroit
Institute of Technology to obtain his bach-
elor's degree in engineering.
But fate deemed otherwise, and many
folks will remember Reza as that very fine
dining room manager at the five-star La
Rotisserie restaurant at the Hyatt Regency
Dearborn ... So good that Reid Ashton
-
at the Golden Mushroom in
Southfield was among others
who could only wish that they
had someone like him ... Even
after leaving La Rotisserie for
the general manager's job at
the fine Appeteaser eatery in
Milford, the offers kept coming
in from Too Chez in Novi, etc.
Reds duties at Steven Lelli's
includes the rubbing off of his
prestigious experience in a
ranking among the best GMs in
the dining business.
THE RECENT successful Dream Cruise
might have had fond memories of one of
Detroit's favorite restaurants whose decor, at
his insistence, was centered almost entirely
around the automotive parts industry, a
novel idea at the time.
Before Jim Constand opened Jim's Garage
on Lamed at Washington Boulevard, Detroit,
it had to be checked and double-checked by
him to make certain that no side gimmicks
were used ... Dinners were named for auto-
mobiles and folks used to have fun saying,
"Give me a Cadillac" or "I'll take a Ford:'
He wanted the looks of the real thing, even
to the extent of having his waiters and wait-
resses wearing white mechanics' jackets with
auto emblems on them.
Cars galore stashed high on one wall, auto-
motive memorabilia everywhere one would
turn, industrial leather belts and so much
more.
The lamb chops were cooked in oil, but
not the kind used by the automobiles he so
cherished.
When torn down for Cobo Hall expansion,
it left folks with wonderful memories ...
Attempts have since been made to duplicate
Jim's Garage, but not as Jim would have
wanted it.
THE SKY LIT UP in colorful splendor as
the lively music of "Hava Nagila" seemed to
jump in unison with the glamorous array of
a lengthy, but thrillingly entertaining fire-
works show.
It was the highly appropriate culmination
to a most entertaining 10th annual Food,
Fun & Fireworks event by Temple Shir
Shalom in West Bloomfield.
More than 600 men, women and chil-
dren tasted the many goodies from about
35 restaurants and other food handlers
(Bacco, Huerto, Stand Bistro, Mex, C.A.Y.A.
Smokehouse, Bonefish, Prime 29, Zoe's, Leo's,
etc.) ... Even Goin' Postal with discounted
Forever Stamps (no taste to the stamps, but
plenty from its kosher hot dogs).
So much fun for the kiddies with rubber
slides, basketball nets, etc. ... Wonderful
music outdoors by Sunset Boulevard Band of
five gents and two female vocalists ... Even
dancing on the grass.
Many kudos to chairperson Katie Brown
and her fine 11-folk committee and almost
50 volunteers for a delightful evening.
OLDIE BUT GOODIE DEPT. ... An
Orthodox rabbi passes on and goes to
Heaven. As he nears the gates, he hears a
band of singing and dancing angels approach
and gets excited.
The lead angel asks the rabbi if he would
mind stepping aside. Shocked, the rabbi does
so. The band of angels encircle an Israeli
bus driver who has approached the gate and
carry him in ahead of the rabbi.
When the parade is gone, an angel returns
and leads the rabbi in alone. The rabbi, some-
what confused, says, "I'm not one to make
waves or anything, but I need to know some-
thing. I've been a good rabbi. I've worked
hard all my life. Why is it that the bus driver
gets led in by a band of angels ahead of me?"
The angel says, "Well, frankly, rabbi,
whenever you preached, people slept. But
whenever he drove, people prayed:'
CONGRATS ... To Irving Hordes on his
birthday ... To Richard "Rick" Messenger on
his birthday.
