frontlines Posing Dangers To Your Health D anger, Will Robinson!" TV buffs will easily recall that warning from television's early days. Former smokers will recall the warning from the surgeon general that began to appear on cigarette packs; many are still ignoring it, however. If you are at all aware of the plethora of medications advertised on television, then you know, almost by heart, that the side effects named could make you fear- ful of ever taking anything again! And yet the warnings must be given to "protect" the supplier/manufacturer. What I would like you to consider are some warnings that ought to be in place for everyday "items." We need to be more mindful of the potential harm that lies before us. • Battery-operated toys — These are almost a staple in every household. But consider the possible side effects: lethar- gy from watching the toys play instead of being actively involved in the play; limited imagination; glassy eyes from staring; increased landfill problems from improperly disposed batteries. • Texting devices — Be aware that these may cause loss of vocal cord use due to lack of oral communication; head and neck pain from constant looking down; an even greater lessen- ing of the ability to spell and create complete sentences; early onset arthritis in the thumbs; great bodily damage from result- ing car crashes. • Reality TV shows — The use of "reality" in the name ought to be warning in itself. (You mean people do not have TV cameras focused on them every moment?) Giving a false sense of reality is greatly damaging to the individual psyche. The "enjoyment" that supposedly comes from watching others perform rather than getting out there and living for yourself is misleading. • Credit cards — These pieces of plastic money ought to come with the cautions about: lower back pain caused by too fat a wallet; the embarrassment of foreclosure due to overexten- sion of debts; devastation caused by credit card theft; the false sense of what is possible (what is in your "means") due to the ease of charging. If you employ any of the above and experience any of the symptoms, stop use immediately and call your financial plan- ner/good friend to "talk you down:' If any symptoms last for more than four hours, do not call a doctor or tell me, for I will only say, "You had been warned:' ❑ JEWISHNEW% T,Ale`;'.`";"7„r:,,,: . 0, a .
