Dynamic Duos Fun With Babies Adat Shalom hosts "Baby Barre & Mitzvah" program for new moms. A dat Shalom's Young Adult Group reached out to the congregation's new moms and friends at a "Baby Barre & Mitzvah" program on Aug. 17 at the Dailey Method in Birmingham. Fifteen young mothers and their babies took part in a mommy-baby Pilates class infused with a spiritual component provided by Rabbi Rachel Shere. Babies ranged in age from 6 weeks to 9 months old. The new Jewish moms bonded with "mommy friends" who are experiencing similar joys and challenges associated with motherhood. They had the opportunity to nourish their bodies with a barre workout, their minds with a discussion about spirituality and mitz- vot, and their babies with social interac- tion, songs and sensory activities. The event was coordinated by Adat Shalom's Young Adult Chairperson Jackie Issner of Birmingham. Carly Goidosik, owner of the studio, donated her space and energy to make the pro- gram a reality, and Lindsay Mall from the Bubble Club was on hand to lead the group in a musical routine. Maggie Myers of Walled Lake, left, with Harry, and Katherine Rothstien and Ari of Birmingham Sara Lipson of West Bloomfied, left, with Josh, and Jackie Issner of Birmingham with Micah Rabbi Rachel Shere spoke with the group about ways the mothers can bring mitz- vot into the lives of their children. Chana Elias Special to the Jewish News p ancakes for Parents, a camper-fueled program, helped entice parents to join their campers at Camp Gan Israel (CGI) at The Shul in West Bloomfield. At the Aug. 13 event, parents cheered, recited a prayer for Israel and enjoyed a breakfast buffet with campers, who showed their affection for their parents through a short video. Each week this summer, CGI had two trips alternating with swimming. Michele Weitzman of West Bloomfield says these activities kept her twin boys engaged. "And it's hard to entertain 9-year-old boys," she said. While participating in typical camp activities, campers learn about core Jewish values and develop a strong Jewish identity. The counselors are teacher- trained and work to develop strong bonds with their campers throughout the summer. "The Shul camp is magical:' Weitzman said.
