Heart helps 260 people.

n Saturday, Aug. 2, oral surgeons Vejayan Krishnan,
William Ruskin, his son Aaron Ruskin and Sarah
Kuo, the doctors of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Associates in Farmington Hills, provided a day of free dental
care for the community.
People began lining up at 6 a.m. While many patients came
from within a 5-25 mile radius; others came from as far away
as Grand Rapids and the Cincinnati area.
The doctors saw 260 patients, provided 129 tooth extrac-
tions, 59 fillings and 69 cleanings. The services performed
would have priced out at more than $75,000.
One patient was 29 years old and had never been seen by a
dentist before.
Many hugs were given to the docs and staffers, who are
planning the second annual "Dentistry From the Heart" event
for next year.

arty this summer, Sky Foundation Inc. held a
women's event at the Bloomfield Hills home of
Bluma Schechter, who lost her husband, Robert, to
pancreatic cancer in 2013.
Ninety-five women gathered for a dinner presentation
by two pancreatic cancer experts and a genetics special-
ist. Dr. Teri Brentnall, from the University of Washington,
and Dr. Diane Simeone, from the University of Michigan,
discussed their early pancreatic cancer detection research

and the challenges this devastating disease presents. Sky
Foundation is funding a seed grant for both doctors'
research.
Additionally, Nancie Petrucelli, from the Karmanos
Cancer Institute in Detroit, provided new information on
genetics and familial pancreatic cancer genetic counseling.
