BEN HUSTLES HARDER Golf Event For Hillel Scholarships N ow in its fourth year, the Hillel Day School Steven Zack Memorial Golf Classic honors the life of Steven Zack of Franklin, who died in 2011. A supporter of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, Zack also was devoted to Hillel, where he chaired the school's previous annual golf outing for six years. Zack strongly believed in its purpose to raise money for tuition assistance at Hillel. His youngest son, Steven Zack Samuel, is currently an eighth-grader at the Farmington Hills school. "Steve loved golf and he loved getting people involved in this outing, which raised money for Hillel," said Marla Zack, Steven's wife. "Our kids were really happy there. It made him happy. When the school renamed the golf outing in his memory, it brought tears to my eyes." Giving was central to Zack's life, she said, and the result of his generosity pays dividends for the Jewish community. "Funds raised by the golf outing help to secure Jewish continuity by providing a Jewish education to students in Metropolitan Detroit who would otherwise not be able to afford a Hillel education:' said Amy Schlussel, director of advancement. This year's outing is Monday, Sept. 8, at Knollwood Country Club in West Bloomfield. The event includes a full day of golf at one of Metro Detroit's pre- mier courses as well as lunch, dinner, mahj jong and cards. First prize in the raffle is a $1,000 gift certificate to the Somerset Collection. For sponsorship opportuni- ties, contact Marni Cherrin at (248) 539-2920 or mcherrin@ hillelday.org .
